Hey guys just wanted to ask for help because I recently upgraded to a ryzen 5 5600 from a ryzen 5 3600 the motherboard is an MSI b450m mortar max, I knew it wasn’t compatible out of the box so I updated the BIOS in advanced which was probably closer to a year now because I was anticipating an upgrade down the line,I tried to open it up to see the cpu light on my motherboard was lighting up and not giving me anything on the screen so I figured it was maybe a cpu compatibility issue? I just wanted to make sure that I didn’t mess up with the bios, hoping someone could help me look at this because Im pretty sure It was compatible
I don’t wanna tinker with in the meantime just to make sure if it is the bios or whatever…

heres the current bios I made sure to take a pic of it just in case I messed up

https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/B450M-MORTAR-MAX/support#cpu

Heres the motherboard supported cpu list

Please let me know if it is indeed compatible with my mobo and or if I need to update the bios again

Any help is appreciated cheers

it seems competible and your bios seems good to go. However sometimes you might get funny parts. Even if they are competible sometimes it just doesnt work. It is very rare but might be it.

However other things to try :

Update to latest bios - your one is good to go but maybe its corrupted or something. Updating it should fix.

Clear cmos and replug ram after you put new cpu - I dont know why but sometimes needed.

Make sure there are no bent / broken pins - haste makes waste !

Be sure you wait a good 5 minutes after turning it on with new cpu - mem check can take a few hot minutes.

how its goin mate ? hope my post helps. Maybe drop a like or follow ? >w<

no ? i guessed that 😄

On the compatibility list it says that 5600 is supported from: 7B89v2F, 7B89v2J doesn't include agesa update (CPU microcode). I suggest you prepare a USB drive with 7B89v2F to flash with bios flash button like so:

Just try flashing motherboard before installing the new CPU. if nothing happens after plugging CPU in, use the bios flash button as shown above.

After you get it up and running you can update to a newer version.  7B89v2K and then 7B89v2L

Will try and check the other things if its all good, hopefully none of them are major problems
