Ok, I want to do a fresh install on my SSD (samsung magician).... I have a copy of my OS available to use, but this secure erase is asking me to insert a usb stick?

Can anyone talk me through the process ?? what size USB?

hello, can anyone help me pls? is the idea that i boot into the system via usb instead, and then opt to secure erase SSD?

(i never did this thing ever before)

 

you just have to put in an usb stick and let the program do its things

if the program doesn't complain, then the usb stick was big enough. otherwise, get a bigger one

 

after the program is done making the bootable stick, reboot your system booting from the stick

it will wipe away all the data, so at this point you'd better not remember that you didn't backup THAT importan file

 

reboot, reinstall the OS

 

if it doesn't work like this and your computer ends up exploding, i swear i'm sorry

The Samsung secure erase needs a USB stick to create a bootable DOS utility on the USB stick because you're attempting to erase the drive where the utility lives so it would not be able to run and erase itself. The USB flash utility is tiny and you could use a 1GB flash drive and be fine... it just has to be empty.

 

Please note, this kind of secure erase only works with 470 and 830 series Samsung SSDs.
