Update BIOS with recent Intel issues

Hi guys,

 

might sound like a silly question but I've got a 13600k in an MSI Pro-A Wi-Fi Z790 that appears to be working perfectly with a mild OC (5.4P + 4.4E @ 1.2v) but I haven't updated my BIOS since I first got the PC so was wondering if updating my BIOS will cause any issues or performance  drops with all the hoo-haa that's going on with Intel at the mo.

 

My chip seems to running perfectly with no crashes or temp issues so I could quite happily operate on the policy of 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' but under normal conditions I'd update the BIOS as soon as a new one was released,

1.2V is very low so you'll probably be fine. It's the stock settings pushing 1.4-1.5V that cause problems, not sure if the 13600K pushes it as far as the i7s and i9s though.

If it's running fine don't touch it. BIOS update could make things worse if anything, i've had bios updates mess up my overclocks before.

If you're affected by the oxidation though then you can't do much about that. I don't think there is any way to tell if your chip has the issue though.

Thanks for the info buddy, that's kinda what I was thinking.

 

I don't actually mind a bios update throwing my OC out of whack if all I need to do is dial it back in.

 

Just wasn't sure if the recent BIOS updates made so many changes that getting my current OC to work with similar / same settings was going to be possible

No, updating bios is fine.  Don't overthink it.   There are myriad fixes and updates they bring.
