I had an idea this morning to potentially help LMG obtain new sponsors and affirm current sponsors: LMG Sponsor Review.

 

What if LMG ran an event polling the viewers on how sponsors spots are integrated into content. LMG would be able to find out what they’re doing right as well as what they’re doing wrong, and they’d be able to gather information on choices that viewers have made to buy products from sponsors spots and advertise them to potential and existing sponsors. This could help LMG’s business as a whole a ton even though the idea would require some effort.

P.S I know there’s already a sponsor suggestion thread. This idea would mainly be dedicated to telling LMG what they’re doing right (since the sponsor suggestion thread and this forum category as a whole is a fairly negativistic section). The constructive criticism would just be an added bonus.

People aren’t viewing the content specifically for the sponsor spots. Sponsor spots on LTT have stayed roughly the same for ten years, surely the viewers have some thoughts.

 

If viewership numbers do dictate their thoughts, then the thoughts must not be good; viewership has declined a ton in the last year or two.

So basically, openly collecting data to be "given" to potential sponsors.

That won't kick up a storm or two, if the data actually valid enough and not filled by a shit ton of trolls that is.

 

Anyway,

I vote sponsor spot should be at the very end of the video, timestamped too.

The answers might require some sorting, but in reality I think the community is full of enough people older than 13 that I don’t think it could be too much of an issue.

I doubt that LTT's content can even be understood by people under 13. Now, yes, there are exceptions, there always will be, but some trolls are also full grown adults with a "less than zero" life.

Do you recall in almost every drama there's a sudden influx of new accounts ?

Even in this forum alone there are a bunch that actually don't like LMG, be it their video, product, just Linus, or the whole.

 

There's a reason why the word "Childish" exist.

And o boy, I've seen and know a lot of people in real life who are over 40 that acts like freakin children in public.

Now add "anonymity"

In fairness, I was one of the accounts created during a drama, and now I am a legitimate user of the platform lol.

 

With any sort of polling, there’s going to be some trolls, that’s why the posts needs to be sorted and filtered.

And how exactly you're going to sort and filter it ?

 

This assuming there won't be a new drama such as "LTT is now openly collecting data from it's viewers to be presented to the highest bidder"

I don’t understand how that would cause drama, it’d be taken on a voluntary basis.

Is there a legitimate reason for drama? With every other controversy there’s something that’s been done wrong, but there’s absolutely nothing wrong with voluntarily submitting data. If you don’t want to submit data, then don’t. It’s that simple.

I don't see a downward trend, it's been stable for years. Last year's events caused a "step" but it's still stable at that slightly lower number.

Maybe some change could be beneficial, but asking people almost certainly isn't how to find out what to do. 

When you poll the internet you usually get a small vocal minority that's gonna go to great lengths about how awful things are and how they should be "fixed", but the vast majority doesn't care at all and won't even bother answering. 

And that minority is... by definition not representative at all of the bigger picture. Like the recent video aobut thumbnails, if you check the related threads here you'll mostly find people who complain about how bad it is, who feel the need to tell the whole world they're going to / have stopped watching because of bad thumbnails etc, but in the grand scheme of things - it doesn't matter.

 

Then there's the fact that marketing / advertising is precisely not about showing you what you already want, it's about convincing you to buy something you didn't know about/think you needed.

You must not have been on the internet for very long. A real troll precisely doesn't make anything obvious, they'll give genuine sounding but bad faith answers.

But that’s my point, the viewership isn’t dictated by the sponsor spots (unless they’re completely obtuse), it’s dictated by the content itself.

Even if there’s one good idea in there, then it could completely change LMG for the better, and would by default be worth it. As you earlier mentioned, LMG has taken a hit due to last year’s events, so this could be a way to possibly recuperate some of that loss.
