Weird CPU issue since yesterday.

Opening the settings app in windows on my LAN pc seems to cause weird cpu spikes (see attached) they go away almost immediately after settings is closed.

 

The spike holds at the high load until the dialog is closed, and it never seemed to be an issue before.

 

Specs:

CPU: Ryzen 5800x3d

gpu: 3080FE

ram: 32gb corsair 3600mhz

 

Many games use less cpu than settings now!

I'd check recent Windows updates to see if anything got updated at the same time the issue appeared.

Also, if you have any auto-updates enabled (drivers, anti-virus, etc.), I'd look there too.

Thank you! I've tried re-installing the latest windows update. I noticed a screen issue on my 2nd monitor while the app was open, so I've also tried re-installing the graphics driver. No improvement so far

Well, I don't think it is a hardware issue. So, you can always wipe the boot drive and reinstall Windows. (I know. This is called the nuke solution...)

Apart from that, maybe the file of the settings app got corrupted and is now causing issues.

I think the file was named taskman.exe or taskmgr.exe but it is generally a bad idea to touch to system files. So, I'm at a loss.

Weirdly, blocking access to bing.com seems to fix it. Some kind of corruption broke the "rewards sign in" button?
