Is this 4060 defective?

Repoball

First of all, specs.

12600kf

4060 8gb

32gb ddr4 3600mhz

ASRock b760 ITX/D4 wifi

1TB M.2 SSD

NZXT H1 V1

I built this computer for a friend, and we got to the post screen. I didn't tamper with any xmp profiles or whatever, just stuck a thumbdrive with the latest version of windows into the computer and let her start. All seems to be normal, and we open windows 11. I go to windows update and update everything.

I install geforce experience to update the driver, and the computer breaks as the screen goes black for 2 minutes, and the computer tries restarting 3 times, which automatically sends the computer into windows recovery. Startup repair fails, and it is impossible to go into the operating system now.

From here I wipe the SSD from bios, and do it all over again. It boots, and I try playing geometry dash to see if the gpu was working before the driver installations. For the first 30 seconds in stereo madness, the fps is 3000, which is normal for geometry dash, but it's quite stuttery. After 30 seconds the entire computer freezes.

I'm almost certain it's a hardware issue, and I have warranty on ALL parts. I believe that the main culprit is the GPU, but I'm not so sure. If anyone can help me out here, I'd be really greatful!

You have not done any testing and you are already blaming the GPU. RAM instability is a guarantee nowadays, that would be the primary suspect.

It is hard to say 100%. The first problems you described with installing the drivers is more commonly the graphics card, but with the freezing it could be anything really... the graphics card, motherboard, memory, SSD, PSU.

The only true way to diagnose a system is to replace parts with known good ones until the issue is resolved.

The problem with your system is that you never used it for a prolonged period of time, so every part is a suspect.
