Okay so i'm stumped and i'm usually very good when it comes to networking.

I have a DIR-850L router which can run 2.4GHz and 5GHz simultaneously but for the past couple days the 5GHz network keeps disappearing. The first time it happened I rebooted my router and it was back and I had no issues for the entire day, then as soon as I stopped using it (when I went to sleep) it would stop working. As I am typing this I have just woken up and realised that my 5GHz network has again disappeared.

What could be happening guys because I haven't changed anything on my network.

5ghz is very stress full for  the router.  it sounds like it cant handle it.  make sure the router ts not overheating and has lots of air flow.

also check  for new firmware it sometime helps.

Try looking in your routers event log, that may says any errors it is having, possibly have a look if there is another 5 ghz network on the same channel when i had to trouble shoot my network i used a tool called inSSIDer it looks at all available wifi and says which are using what channel etc.

Yep, changing the channel is always the first thing to try for any router. Most people never change the channel from default, and you can end up with two different routers broadcasting on the same channel because of a neighbor. Also, make sure the router is not near certain other electronic devices, such as a cordless landline phone.
