My friends are always complaining with the amount of background noise that accompanies the Logitech webcam mic i use even though one of those friends sounds like a tin can in a tank while underwater. So ive been doing my research and i want to get either a blue snowball or a cheap shotgun mic. I saw some reviews on youtube of the EM-320E and it seems like a good quality shotgun mic that is also extremely cheap. I just want a mic that picks up the least amount of background noise but I don't really know any other recommendations.

The Blue Snowball ($49) is an excellent microphone.

If you want to save up a bit more and want something that you could also record podcasts and videos with, look into the AT2020 ($127) and Blue Yeti ($99).

All of those mics are cardioid microphones. Would that be enough to not pick up background noise? Most of the noise would come from in front of me (behind mic), Sometimes behind me and to my right. I like the blue snowball alot because it has a more than decent price and good things are the only things i hear about it.

Siblings and dogs are the kind of background noise I'm facing. Right now the webcam picks up absolutely everything. Even birds in the distance are clearly audible to my friends when i have windows open. I think i would rather buy from amazon though (got Prime and trust issues). How would a pop filter help? I don't really think i need one. And I already have a more than decent pair of headphones.

EDIT: Also the snowball iCE edition. Whats the difference?

The yeti, which I have, is very good at picking up background noise. It's not very isolated but that's what a good mic does. However all you need is a headset with a mic. They will pick up your voice perfectly fine while gaming and will not pickup any background noise. Your voice isn't as clear as a yeti in that respect but that doesn't matter when just talking to friends.

EDIT: A pop filter removes the annoying "pop" noise from large amounts of air hitting the mic when making a "p" sound. The pop filter reduces the air that travels to the mic and prevents the "popping" noise.

I plan on recording videos with my friends and such for fun but the only thing stoping me so far is horrid internet speed and annoying non 1080p monitor that wouldn't fare well with youtube.

As far as internet speed there's nothing to do there. YouTube streams back very compressed videos so 1080p and 720p don't look much different when uploaded to them. Other than that I'm pretty sure antlion mod mics are really good. The snowball would be your best bet. My Yeti sound about 25% better than it so it should be fine.

Yea im set on the snowball Ill hopefully be buying it today or tomorrow. As for youtube. My upload speed would make really frustrating to upload videos along with constant drop-outs. My resolution is 1680x1080 and i really dont like the way they look on youtube. Makes it look unprofessional.

As far as uploading goes, I get about 3mb/s of upload and it takes about 3 hours for me to upload videos which isn't bad at all. My internet as well cuts out but YouTube resumes the upload right where it left off so It works well. As far as the resolution goes, record at 1280x720. It will help with quality by being a standard resolution.

Get the M-Audio producer mic. For around $90 it is a amazingly good USB mic. I'v had mine for about a year now and I still have not found a better mic for the price that I bought it.

Just so you know the Blue snowball or any desktop mic will pick up background noises if they are moderately loud. If you want to eliminate background noises, you need to get the mic closer to your mouth. In order to do that, you can either get an arm for the snowball or get something like a modmic and attach it to your headphones.

The mod mic seems like a good solution but I'm not sold on the audio quality just yet. Along with supply problems they are always having i think ill just use snowball on desk and tell friends to go fuck themselves.

The supply problem shouldn't be a problem with their new manufacturer. I got mine a few days ago. Can't tell you anything about the quality because I haven't used it yet.

Good to know! I already ordered the snowball mic in blue. I hope it doesn't disappoint. My friend thinks i should get a real headset instead of a desk mic. Silly kid thinks I should drop my q701's for a gaming headset.

I personally like the K612 more because the headband is more comfortable without the bumps on them and there is a bit more bass. I was tempted to get the q701 for the detachable cable though.

Yea i was tempted to return my q701 for the new k712's. The bumps don't bother me that much but it seems like a good change along with the slightly better bass response. Only thing stoping me is price but it has drooped down.
