Which of these GPUs are the best?

Budget (including currency): RTX 4070 (at most a RTX 4070 super)

Country:

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Gaming

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

Hello!

I'm looking to buy either a 4070 or 4070 super however I'm more inclined to 4070 because it's a tiny bit cheaper. I wonder which one or ones of these are the best and or there are any should skip totally?

The cheapest models in my country are 4070:

1. MSI GeForce RTX 4070 VENTUS 2X OC  https://pcpartpicker.com/product/NHzXsY/msi-ventus-2x-oc-geforce-rtx-4070-12-gb-video-card-rtx-4070-ventus-2x-12g-oc

2. Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4070 WINDFORCE 2X OC. https://pcpartpicker.com/product/BJ26Mp/gigabyte-windforce-2x-oc-geforce-rtx-4070-12-gb-video-card-gv-n4070wf2oc-12gd

For the cheapest 4070 super models it's

1. ASUS Dual GeForce RTX 4070 Super 12GB EVO https://pcpartpicker.com/product/qtbRsY/asus-dual-evo-oc-geforce-rtx-4070-super-12-gb-video-card-dual-rtx4070s-o12g-evo

2. ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER Twin Edge

3. ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER Twin Edge OC https://pcpartpicker.com/product/Y39wrH/zotac-gaming-twin-edge-oc-geforce-rtx-4070-super-12-gb-video-card-zt-d40720h-10m

4. Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4070 Super Windforce OC  12GB https://pcpartpicker.com/product/HCkH99/gigabyte-windforce-oc-geforce-rtx-4070-super-12-gb-video-card-gv-n407swf3oc-12gd

5. Inno3D GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER Twin X2 - 12GB GDDR6X (not in stock)  https://pcpartpicker.com/product/r4hv6h/inno3d-twin-x2-geforce-rtx-4070-super-12-gb-video-card-n407s2-126x-186162n

in my country the 4070 goes for cheapest $640 and the 4070 super $731. These are also roughly the prices for the GPUs mentioned here on these lists.

The decision should be between 4070 and 4070 Super as those are completely different cards. The brand/model of each is much less important. For example, if its a 4070, no matter if Asus, Gigabyte or Zotac make it they're all going to perform within margin of error of eachother. Warranties these days are all essentially the same so generally the only difference is going to be noise and cooling. A somewhat (but not foolproof) method is get the one with the largest cooler.

Get the cheapest one for the higher tier model you can afford, so the cheapest 4070Super 🙂

4070Super is like 10% faster than the normal 4070, so it's worth the price increase

Where are you located ? Those prices seem pretty high, even here in Taxland (France) it's 600EUR for a 4070 and 650EUR for the Super

System : AMD R9 5900X / Gigabyte X570 AORUS PRO/ 2x16GB Corsair Vengeance 3600CL18 ASUS TUF Gaming AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX OC Edition GPU/ Phanteks P600S case /  Eisbaer 280mm AIO (with 2xArctic P14 fans) / 2TB Crucial T500  NVme + 2TB WD SN850 NVme + 4TB Toshiba X300 HDD drives/ Corsair RM850x PSU/  Alienware AW3420DW 34" 120Hz 3440x1440p monitor / Logitech G915TKL keyboard (wireless) / Logitech G PRO X Superlight mouse / Audeze Maxwell headphones

So you don't think the 4070 models I showed were good? They are the only cheap models available. The other 4070 models are just a $50 difference between them and a entry 4070 super.

Thanks! Yes I saw it in videos aswell the performance is marginal and it doesn't matter. The main difference is the build quality and noice level and I mostly ask for those reasons so I don't buy something that break or sound like an jet engine if it's the case with any of these GPUs

No, 4070 are good, but 4070 Super are just better 😁

Do you have any opinions on the 7900 GRE?

The cheapest 4070 models in my country are:

1. MSI GeForce RTX 4070 VENTUS 2X OC  https://pcpartpicker.com/product/NHzXsY/msi-ventus-2x-oc-geforce-rtx-4070-12-gb-video-card-rtx-4070-ventus-2x-12g-oc

2. Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4070 WINDFORCE 2X OC. https://pcpartpicker.com/product/BJ26Mp/gigabyte-windforce-2x-oc-geforce-rtx-4070-12-gb-video-card-gv-n4070wf2oc-12gd

and they go for $642

The cheapest 4070 Super models in my country are the ones mentioned on the first post and they go for $734

Here's the cheapest RX 7900 GRE model:

Gigabyte Radeon RX 7900 GRE GAMING OC 2xHDMI 2xDP 16GB https://pcpartpicker.com/product/Fq26Mp/gigabyte-gaming-oc-radeon-rx-7900-gre-16-gb-video-card-gv-r79gregaming-oc-16gd

It goes for $660

The performance per dollar seems to be much better on the AMD card but I've never tested one before. What's your opinion? Are Ray Tracing and those newer technologis worth it? If so, is it a big one? How do the GPU perform outside of gaming? I probably wont use it for anything special outside of gaming right now but perhaps it's good to know in case.

The 7900GRE approximately performs as a 4070S for the price of a 4070 in your case

Losing Nvidia RT/DLSS really depends on the games and resolution you play at, for most games at less than 4K it isn't important imo, as only a few games have worthwhile RT (say CP2077 has) and DLSS is really useful to boost 4K performance, but isn't really needed with a powerful card at 1440p and below

Plus you can use the new XeSS 1.3 on AMD cards, which is pretty nice, better than FSR2, I use it to play CP2077 with RT (not PT...) at ultrawide 1440p, 90fps+ on my 7900XTX and looks great

Thanks! That's good to know. Right now as speaking it seems as if the 7900 GRE for that price is sold out which is really unfortunate. However there's other 7900 GRE models from other companies.

Asus Radeon RX 7900 GRE Dual OC Edition HDMI 3xDP 16GB $673

Sapphire Radeon RX 7900 GRE Pulse 2xHDMI 2xDP 16GB $675

There's other  options aswell but they start to approach the price of 4070 Super. It doesn't say when the sold out Gigabyte model will come back but it says I can order it. It really seems like a steal for $660 since on other stores it costs $698. I've also seen reviews on the Gigabyte model so I know what I get if I buy it. It wouldn't shock me if it comes back to stock in some weeks of time because that seems to be the date of GPUs on other stores.

If both 7900GRE and  4070S are at the same price (or within $20 of each other), get the 4070S

the 7900 GRE has more vram, and with the new memory overclocking results, can get even better than the 4070S in many games

OP seems to only want to use RT as an experimental so won't be that valuable

image.thumb.png.5478ef79668d7e311a7cb44a3bb6b8fd.png

yes, it's not that good at RT but even the 4070S just breaks 60 at 1080p ultra. If they're using RT normally then yes, I would recommend the 4070S

Yes you're right. I haven't used RT before and for this reason it's really hard to tell if it's worth the premium and how it compared to AMDs alternative. I would guess that a YouTube video probably wont justify RT on vs off and I need to see it for myself so it's really hard for me to tell if it's something I would even care about.

The memory overclocking looks really impressive from the video you showed.
