Macbook problems with battery connected

I picked up a mid 2012 McBook Pro  (specs on link) from ewaste yesterday, it runs absolutely fine with the battery disconnected. However, when the battery is plugged in, it experiences a range of issues: -Display backlight doesn't come on -Display and backlight flicker on and off -Failure to boot into Windows (freezing upon boot).

I'm not a Mac person so I am not sure where to begin diagnosing the problem. Could it be the motherboard, or is the battery itself? Is the battery drawing too much power, thus depriving other higher-draw components (backlight, HDD) of power so the system has issues booting?
I have a hunch the battery itself may be the problem, as it is an aftermarket replacement from the company "INGLT", and again the laptop works completely fine without it connected. However, I still want to ask for advice before purchasing a new battery.

Thanks!
