Help deciding new GPU!

alkhaza

Hello, my name is George.

I use EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 SC GAMING Black Edition 8GB GDDR5 version for now and I have decided to upgrade. Which GPU would you suggest for future upgrade? I play these games:

- Grand Theft Auto V

- RAGE Multiplayer

- Fortnite

- Counter-Strike 2

- Euro Truck Simulator 2

- Red Dead Redemption 2

- Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege

Here are two GPUs I plan on choosing:

   1. ASUS GeForce RTX 3060 V2 OC Edition 12GB GDDR6 Gaming Graphics Card

   2. MSI GeForce RTX™ 4060 VENTUS 2X BLACK 8G OC

   3. Any other ideas? I don't mind AMD GPUs at all. I use 12th Gen Intel(TM) Core(R) i5-12400F, and don't want any bottleneck at all and also I don't want to spend too much money on upgrade, as I am just a casual gamer.

PS:

- PSU is 650W

What resolution are you playing at?

If you don't use nvidia's VSR, Voice AI or stream (i.e. you're only gaming on this pc) then AMD is a good option to go for

6700 XT should do a good job in these games

New AMD RX6700/6750XT's are around the price of 4060's and usually perform better. Native rasterized games should also be super competitive in AMD's favor.

The extra VRAM of the 3060 is never going to compensate for its lower performance, unless you play at a very high resolution where you are too far short of VRAM and the 4060's performance gets crippled

At which point you would rather get a 6700XT or 6750XT for the higher performance and VRAM that is more fitting for high resolution. If those cost too much, the 7600XT (16GB) still performs better than the 4060 and the gap only widens as you increase resolution.

When there is CPU bottleneck, a more powerful GPU is still going to perform better than a weaker one.
