That’s fair I forgot Nvidia is scum

yep.... they know what specs people will look at.... memory bus-width isn't normally up there, so they decided to save a few pennies by saving some space on the silicon and thereby gimping the memory bandwidth.

Added bonus is that even if they put 16Gb in that card, the extra RAM is relatively unusable if you were to play a game that genuinely needed more than 8Gb VRAM, so forces to people to upgrade, even if the actual processing power of the GPU is high enough for the game.

nVidia aren't in the business of making long-lasting good value products.... they're in the business of making money: need to give people enough to sell it now, but not so much that they will be happy with it for 3 or 4 years.... lots of people aim for that "60" tier card as they've traditionally been the value sweet spot to upgrade every couple of years, so it is now the most abused level in terms of value.

Neither are bad cards, but the 4060 gen are awful at higher res... none are viable for RT and they're all pretty poor value, even now that they've dropped a bit in price.

If you want 1080P, then best value is probably a 6600 or some of the other higher-end 6000-series cards (6800XT?), depending on budget.... nVidia have a few interesting options starting out around the RTX4070super point, with the RTX4080super also being interesting..... but we're doubling the budget and more to get to those.
