i have a choice between upgrading current cpu and getting a new mobo+cpu
the options are:
11600kf - 100$ or 11900kf - 160$
or
13490f - 170$
gigabyte b760m aorus pro ax ddr4 - 130$

so what should i go with?

i plan on upgrading to arc a750 or similar performance battlemage one gpu later on

Cpu upgrade would be better over mobo, most mobos don’t make a difference

ryzen is not an option as am4 is already dead and am5 is expensive compared to lga 1700
also my current mobo is gigabyte b560m h and i dont think it could actually really handle 11600kf

Am4 is always an option for super cheap gaming systems. Intel has expensive as shit mobos and lga 1700 is basically a dead platform already.

It could handle it, unless there’s a weird power requirement or you’re doing intense iverclocking

aint gonna upgrade to anything from amd, now back to the main topic

this exact mobo has the lowest price for a good branded mobo with overkill cooling solution which is always good also support up to 5333mhz ddr4 which will be easy to reach with my current ram

Why not and if you’re gaming?

Anyways I’d avoid the 11th gen if you can get 10th gen. It performs the same.
If you’re going to oc heavily, then a better mobo is probably in order, though a better cpu is doable in the same range.

If you buy used you might be able to fit in better CPUs, or even ddr5 if you’re lucky.

used price for cpu is just 10$ less and no one sells this mobo used also why i need ddr5 if i already have ddr4 4400 running

Ddr5 ocing can go to like the moon and back, but I get what you’re saying

TBH it might be worth it for you to wait for next gen intel, and for the current prices to go down in ddr5 and lga1700 mobos. If you wait, prices will plummet, like with am4

Why no amd? If you’re gaming, it’s the way to go and it wins out p/p, especially used

i dont wanna go used and neither amd in my pc (im fine about amd in other pcs like my brother's one and etc but i always wanted to do a full intel build so try to understand me plz), also i aint considering getting ddr5 in a very while because the mobo i chose is ddr4 (gigabyte b760m aorus pro ax ddr4)

I know you don’t want ddr5 currently, but think about the future. You also might be able to find a ddr5 mobo for a decent price used, and some mid ram for it that you can upgrade later.

But staying ddr4, it’s fine to upgrade the mobo if you’re ocing super high.

i know that b760m cant do cpu oc but memory oc is enough for me, also i found literally the same mobo but ddr5 used for same price as ddr4 one new, so i am basically safe for future

Cool, just make sure you get ddr5 (that’s kind of the sticking point, it costs a bit more)

what rams are you running? only rams i know are capable of that kinda speed is micron 16gbit rev b and hynix 8gbit djr

considering your target is 5333+ im just gonna be under the assumption that you are dead serious and wont be a sissy when it comes to voltage cause youll definitely be running near or right at the maximum volt the ram ic scales to (1.7v for rev b and 1.9v for djr) so a ram fan will definitely be neccesary since higher freq = more temp sensitive

and im also gonna be under the assumption that you know your shit so no ridicolous misconceptions like cpu imc can be degraded by vdimm (complete bullshit if i can run 2.6v ddr3 on my x58a ud3r without issue) or whatever nonsense misconceptions normies or non hardcore ocers make cause you simply know your hardware better since you actually pushed your hardware to the limit and not just cower in fear at only 1.5v vdimm

Spoiler

 IMG_20240318_225751.thumb.jpg.507ddfd9747119525c89b725c8ffde27.jpg

in that case happy overclocking and expect to breach 5000 with relative ease just as easy as me becoming the bloomfield ram freq wr holder by blowing right past the old record (3168 afaik under ln2) on pure air cooling with just abit of experimenting, if you have doubts or missing bits of info look around on the internet for some other ppl that run 5000+ ddr4 as those will probably be of some help

i will warn you that mobo ratings are not very accurate and mobo ratings tend to overshoot past the ram oc capabilities

so youll have to do some research see what boards other ppl used to achieve ddr4 5000+ as thats the most accurate way to guage how good a mobo or a brand is in general for that particular gen of mobos ram oc wise, afaik on b550 gigabyte is pretty well known to do high ram freq with ease mainly just buildzoid doing some ocs on giga boards. my x58a ud3r is the opposite3 that underrates the board at only 2200 ddr3, as bad as the 3rd channel is it can still hit 2800 and those inner channels seem to just keep going and going considering ive already almost hit 3400, just need to bin some more cpus for higher freq, just that most manufacturers wont be underrating their boards and even if they did probably not by this much

11th gen will do 5000+ with relative ease in gear 2, 12th and 13th gen have better imcs afaik but non k cpus have locked vccsa so cant even do >3466, so if you go for 12th/13th/14th gen go for a k cpu, i suspect a 12600k(f) will fit in budget but id reccomend a 13600k(f) if possible

as for your current board i mean it would be fun to try pushing it to 5000+ ddr4, if you want an 11600kf to run on it youll probably wanna put a fan over the vrms, imo lowend boards are the most fun to oc =p

hynix djr 8 bit ones they are running 4400 18-24-24-42 rn on my i3, didnt bother to go higher for now
also 12600kf is kinda useless as it eats way more energy than 13490f possibly could for same performance and i dont wanna change my 500w psu yet

well damn i didnt think youd just withdraw like that

in that case id just follow @Linuswasright actually sane and sensible suggestions cause if you arent gonna have fun with nonsensical hardware choices dont even bother choosing said nonsensical hardware since you wont notice the diff in terms of having fun with the two

for the 12600k get a z board so you can undervolt, but what gpu? 500w is plenty for a chip thatd consume ~180w stock, might aswell send a pic of the wattage table just to check the real wattage

getting z board is either overpaying for brand board or getting chinese z board that doesnt support 13th and 14th gen

also about gpu, i will either get a750 or same performing battlemage one

used a770 is a better choice if you wanna stick with intel gpu, im pretty sure theres some cheap ones used due to the driver shenanigans awhile ago

in that case just get the 12600k(f) and try undervolting witth the b760

btw what country?

a770 eats entire 50w on idle which is not an option for me, also russia

smh

nonsensical full intel build for 5000+ ddr4 oc fun

practical power efficient amd build with lower power draw and better performance per watt

pick one cause clearly you cant have both
