Will undervolting my 7800 XT cause problems?

Go to solution Solved by Vonrottes,

Only issue will be if you go to far, it will become unstable 😂

But won't cause any damage to anything.

I got rid of basically all coil whine on my 7900xt at 1030mv so I'm at 70mv undervolt from stock, but results will vary.

I have purchased a 7800 XT, and I will be build my PC tomorrow. I will be using Linux, so I'll end up using MangoHUD instead of Afterburner. I have heard AMD GPUs have coil whine issues, so how much should I undervolt my GPU to and will it cause any problems at all?

Edit: Made a similar post for my Ryzen 5 7600X

No it won't cause any issues, I've rarely heard my 6950XT whine unless it's an older title pushing 500+fps

Honestly V-Sync Lock is what I usually do myself since I don't need to run it full tilt with the titles I play and didn't undervolt either.

Just so you know, there are many videos out there about undervolting AMD GPU that only result in an overclock with no change to power draw or temperature.

If your intent is to actually lower temps, you will need to reduce the Power Limit setting in whatever overclocking software you use.

Setting a global framerate cap at the fresh rate of your monitor will also let the GPU avoid drawing unessecary  power.
