Hi, this might be a question not suited for this channel but I wanted to ask if I want to develop a microphone to pick up the sound of a gulp what should I research on in order to develop one? So far I understand that I would want to develop a condenser microphone and would need to find a smaller Diaphragm so that it is a little more sensitive, and find a preamp that would help read this signal. Can anyone guide me in the right direction?

What are the reasons for you that regular, off the shelf microphones wouldn`t work for you?

There are plenty, pretty cheap and sensitive microphones out there. Just throw in a good audio interface with a good preamp and it should work just fine.

 

Also, you might want to investigate contact microphones. Those can be pretty small and lightweight and can give you a different insight into what is going on.
