Just to start off, I would just like to say that this is not my main system. I built this system to take with me to college next semester, but because I didn't want to spend a ton of money on it, I decided to use older components.

Old System Specs:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (Stock)

CPU Cooler: Stock Intel

RAM: 4 Gigabytes of Various RAM

Motherboard: XFX MB-N780-ISH9

Graphics Card: Evga Geforce GTX 550 Ti

Power Supply: Rosewill RP600V2-S-SL-S

Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 320 GB

Case: APEVIA X-CRUISER Blue

New System Specs:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (Overclocked to 3.0 Ghz)

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo

RAM: 6 Gigabytes of Various RAM

Motherboard: XFX MB-N780-ISH9

Graphics Card: MSI Geforce GTX 760 (Is currently in other system, will move once I get my new GPU)

Power Supply: Corsair CX 500

SSD: OWC Mercury Electra 3G 120 GB

Hard Drive: Was going to use old 1TB Seagate Barracuda, but it is broken, so I am going to get a WD Blue 1TB soon. Currently just using the old 320 GB.

Case: APEVIA X-PLORER2 Black/Red (AS you will see in the pictures, the side panel fan is on the outside, and that is because it wouldn't fit inside with the Hyper 212 Evo)

Great job!

I CAN SEE YOUR FACE ;3

It's just my chin.

It is really difficult to get good cable management in this case. Once I get my new graphics card, which is much bigger, I'll try and clean it up a bit.

I don't really love the color scheme, but I didn't purchase the original system (it was given to me), so I just used whatever I had.

Oh, I know....it was no criticism of you. Combining black, green, and brown among others seems a really weird choice by them

In my opinion, the motherboard itself doesn't look too bad on its own, but in the red case, it doesn't look great. Luckily for me, it's not very bright inside the case, so the colors don't show up so much.

And the cable management is the only think you notice anyway;-)

Just teasing a little;-)

It is a mess. As I said in another comment, I am going to make it look much better once I get my new graphics card. It is really difficult in this case because you cannot route any cables behind the motherboard tray. I think I did OK with the 24-pin and 8-pin; it's just by the power supply that needs work.

Yeah, its just the molex that kinda stand out, and drive cages facing that way is always a hassle. All cases should have drive cages that can actually hide the cables behind the motherboard tray.

But maybe you will stumble on a different case at some point if somebody you know is doing a new build. People throw shit out all the time.

The case did have a drive cage that faced the other way, but in order to use that cage, the cables had to be right up against the window. The drive would not fit in the opposite way, so the cables could not be routed behind the motherboard tray.

As for getting a different case, this is the biggest I will go for this system. It is going to be moving around a bunch, so I will probably replace this with a Micro ATX system in about a year. I only built this using an ATX motherboard because that is all I had.

  • 2 weeks later...

UPADATE 6/2/14:

I got the Radeon 7950 and Decided to put it in this system and leave the GTX 760 in my other system. After installing I realized that this CPU was bottlenecking the 7950 a ridiculous amount (I was getting 30% GPU usage with nearly 100% CPU usage in some games). I have since gotten a bit of money and decided to completely rebuild the system in a Micro ATX enclosure (so no pictures of the system with the new GPU). I will be ordering the parts for this new system within the coming weeks (hopefully!), so for now, here is what I plan to use.

Specs:

CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K (once its released)

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo

RAM: 8 Gigabytes DDR3-1600 (whatever is cheapest at the time)

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z97MX-Gaming 5 (Newegg Link

Graphics Card: Sapphire Radeon 7950

Power Supply: Corsair CX 500

SSD: OWC Mercury Electra 3G 120 GB

Hard Drive: WD Blue (or Black if its cheap enough) 1 TB

Case: Corsair Obsidian 350D
