I won't lie, I love my Apple Studio Display, it's the best peripheral investment I've made even beating out my Logitech MX Master and Mechanical for Mac series peripherals.

  • Impeccable visual fidelity
  • Built in charging via USB C
  • Built in speakers that sound really good (relative to monitor and laptop speakers)
  • Built in camera and mic that just work
  • While not a specification item, I truly do love that its made of glass and metal on the exterior for the most part giving it an incredibly durable look and feel

But as much as I love it, I can't help but think Apple could've changed a few annoyances and made it truly the best display on the market (not best bang for buck, just best in general for the general consumer market).

  • Removable power plug, like really, I shouldn't need a special tool to remove it
  • Better quality camera, there should be plenty of space for it
  • Increased compatibility with Windows (a lot of us Apple users still use Windows, I personally keep an Intel MacBook Pro around just for Windows and playing games, even when the Intel Mac was my main machine I still duel booted it so I could play the occasional PC only game)
  • 60Hz refresh rate for the price feels a bit low, like make it 120Hz

I honestly feel if Apple were to make these adjustments in an Apple Studio Display 2 they could have potentially the best consumer computer display, especially when it comes to being a simple two cable plug and play operation.

There are so many different situations where different specs are called for, calling ANY display perfect or almost perfect is impossible. Case in point, while this display might be almost perfect for you personal use case, it's terrible for me compared to other options that could cost the same.

I will give Apple some credit: With the hardware they're using for the display, the out-of-the-box color accuracity is really good. But that's pretty much the only one of their features that's actually worth something to me personally. I don't need the camera, metal frame, glass panel or USB-C. I'd rather spend that part of the budget towards other specs that make a bigger difference to me, like pixel response times, refresh rate, windows support, good HDR, etc.

I think you get the point.

Don't let that take away from your enjoyment though. It's just my opinion after all.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

You make a fantastic point that there are different use cases which may dictate different hardware requirements and the products ability to pertain to mine. I suppose by almost perfect I meant if this display could be more competitively priced and have greater compatibility with Windows it could become a genuine mass market solution for those who want a display, camera, mic, speakers and built in charging for their laptops without needing to purchase several different items.

I think someone should make an Apple Studio Display that does everything it does at a fraction of the cost and with massive improvements to Windows compatibility. That I could see going mainstream ESPECIALLY for offices. I handle the IT of many offices and an all in one solution would simplify their purchasing and equipment leasing a ton.

Though perhaps some already do it and its seen minimal success and my thought process is completely biased through the perspective of an IT person dealing with 100s of machines and installations looking for methods of consolidating hardware types to reduce overhead and increase overall efficiency.

I'm also a Mac user, I would not recommend this display to a Windows user and I'm one of those horrible disgraces to humanity known as a console player! XD Lmao
