Posted May 22, 2014 Is the Kairos smartwatch too good to be true? - the Verge I personally dont really care about smartwatches.............at least not yet but this concept looks pretty cool. It's basically a traditional watch with a clear screen in front of it that shows you notifications and stuff, also of course its touchscreen. It looks like a normal watch and doesn't look that bad, at least to me. The gold one at the end of the video is hideous though, at least to me. Apparently it's suppose to be released in December. Would you guys want this watch.
Posted May 22, 2014 It will either be expensive as hell or it will be gimmicky and stupid. "If you do not take your failures seriously you will continue to fail"

Posted May 22, 2014 I call shinanigans unless the video just makes the screen look way more transparent than it really is Me: Yeah I just really can't get my H220 working again, I've tried everything that was suggested in the forum. Brian (Swiftech Support): Hmm, have you tried slapping it?
Posted May 22, 2014 Guess we just have to wait and see until someone gets their hands on one. Looks awesome though!
Posted May 23, 2014 It will either be expensive as hell or it will be gimmicky and stupid. I call shinanigans unless the video just makes the screen look way more transparent than it really is the pricing is 499-1199$, depending on the movement and the material in the video description the transparency is "The transparent display is 40% to 60% transparent depending on the type of display you choose (TOLED Dot Matrix vs. TOLED ICON)" i'm not that knowledgeable about the movements but i'd say 500$ (i dished out 400€ for one and i love it) is ok for a mechanical smart watch and IIRC the battery for display should last 2-3 days, but the good thing is, even if the battery goes out, you'll still have a working watch P.S. was already posted http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/155335-best-looking-smart-watch-around/ P.P.S i'm saving for Panerai, so this is not for me A person is smart. Posted May 23, 2014 I've seen LG's OLED transparent displays in person, so this is technically do-able. But, I think Verge has the right idea when they are wondering how a start-up will be able to build this. First, how would they get a contract for LG to build the screens in that shape/size unless they are ordering bulk (which I highly doubt a start-up can do). Also, it doesn't really seem like an easy thing to build on an engineering level.
 Posted May 23, 2014 Sounds a bit fishy, especially for those prices, my guess is that functionality will be extremely limited and the smart functions won't be nearly as good as advertised, as for the lcd technology it's possible but I don't know how sunlight visibility is, which is sort of an important point with smartwatches. That said it's a cool looking watch, especially in matte black, if a bit too large. TBH this concept is something I have been waiting for, I don't really care about Moto 360 or any other smart watch so far, I want a smartwatch which looks like a nice actual watch which does not need to be charged every day or tapped/clicked just to read the time, but has a few minor smart functions, I'd rather pull out my phone if I want to browse or play games anyway. Posted May 23, 2014 But there is no denying, it is what we would expect from a so called "smartwatch".
Posted May 23, 2014 Transparent screens are possible to make. I don't see why this would be "too good to be true". Google Glass already has a transparent screen, Samsung has demoed a "smart window" that used a transparent screen, there is some company making a transparent TV and the list goes on... I think this is a better solution than having the entire clock rely on a single LCD or SAMOLED screen. This will be able to get far better battery life while still having a lot of the "smart watch2 functionality.
