Well, if it's the 5900X and you're using 1440p, get the 7800XT, you won't notice the performance difference anyway. Or get the regular old 6800 while those are still available.

If you're on 1080p, get a monitor instead. No sense in going above what you already have if the CPU is going to heavily bottleneck anything stronger.

Hey, so I currently have a Rx 6600 as my GPU and I'm looking to get an upgrade later in the month like after the 25th. I was looking at either an Rx 7800xt or a 6950XT. I live like 6 mins from a micro center, they have a 7800xt for $520 USD and a 6950XT for $550 USD. I was just looking for some second opinions on the matter.

Edit: the reason im upgrading is because I am gonna have a good amount of spendable cash and am also upgrading to a ryzen 9 5900x this weekend, which prompted me to also wanna get a new gpu. I mainly game and sometimes stream so

Rx 6600

that's a decent GPU, what's the upgrade reason? is it just spendable cash that would sit on shelf otherwise?

Buy as much as you can afford, or you will have to buy twice/replace sooner if you go cheap. A more expensive card will also hold it's value better over time, which means better resell value, and you will have enjoyed that high end card during all the time you've owned it.

I'd go for the 6950 XT in this case, but what prompts the upgrade? What do you want to work better? What's the rest of your spec?

The 6950 XT is the superior card (at least in raw performance), but I'd get the 7800 XT because the power consumption is easier to manage.

What do you do with the PC though? RDNA3 has other advantages that might be relevant to you, like the upgraded display port and improved performance in some workstation apps.

What's the rest of the system? Playing on 1440p?

The 6950XT is noticeably stronger, closer to the 7900XT than to the 7800XT.

But it heats a lot more, draws more power, doesn't have AV1 encoding, and some newer features.

Why a 5900X ? If you're gaming you should rather get a X3D chip

I went from a 5900X to a 5800X3D after I got the 6950XT cause the 5900X was bottlenecking the 6950XT on 1440p in PUBG.

Before the 5900X I had the R5 3600. And I had the 5700XT. So, I know.

If you're gaming, opt for an X3D instead of the 5900X.
