I am looking to get a new keyboard since I just bought everything else for a PC upgrade. I would like a custom mechanical keyboard with switches that arent extremely loud(but I want the click). I am torn between the Drop CTRL V2 and the Keychron V6.

Comparing the 2:

Drop CTRL V2:

- Price

- I would like a numpad for my work, but not necessary

- I like the keycaps and how they are square

Keychron V6

- rounded keycaps

- RGB is better and not facing south like the Drop

- I do not know what switch to get with these.

Anything helps, thank you.

The V6 does have south-facing LEDs, the Drop CTRL v2 has north-facing LEDs.

The keycap profile on the Drop CTRL is called OEM, which is fairly common. Keychron should also have those in their store, so you could buy a (barebones) V6 and just exchange the caps.

If you want RGB for shine-through, be mindful that a lot of custom keycaps are not shine through afaik. I don't believe the keycaps on the V6 are shine through.

In terms of switches, define "loud". Unless you get silent switches, most mechanical switches will make more sound than a membrane board due to the moving stem hitting the housing inside the switch. On "silent" switches these are buffered by internal rubber/silicone pads, or something similar.

"Clicky" switches don't come in silent versions, because their stick is to have the nice audible feedback of the click. "tactile" switches do come in both silent and normal, so do linears.

The drop CTRL v2 does not come with clicky switches, they have options for tactile or linear.
