I just finished building a new pc and when the new gpu is installed the pc gets stuck in an on/off loop. It doesn't even get to boot.

I did the usual unplugging and checking all connections. Everything is fine without the gpu plugged in.

I have..

GPU Radeon RX 5500 XT

CPU i5 12400

Motherboard MSI Pro B760m-P DDR4

PSU  Gamemax RGB 550W Modular

I have been all over google and nothing helps.

It's my 1st build and not happy right now.

All help appreciated..

Lemme retry.

Does GPU have it's own power connector and it's not daisy chained?

Is power not coming from CPU connector on PSU?

It has it's own power connector and the lead from the psu has 2 pcie power plugs, I presume for a gpu needing more power.

The pc starts normally without gpu power plugged in.

The power in plugged into the pcie socket on PSU, not CPU.

The simplest way to test the GPU and Motherboard would be if you have a friend when both of you can try to swap each other's GPU's. First to see if theirs works in your PC, eliminates PCIE lane being busted and to see if your GPU works in their PC, eliminates your GPU being busted.

That being said, looking online, is your BIOS up to date? Reset CMOS? Seen plenty of post where people for some reason with older BIOSes have everything work with up to date ones.

Also you could check just to be safe parts one by one to see if something is triggering a shutdown when GPU might not be at fault.

Boot PC with everything plugged in except RAM.

Boot PC with everything plugged in except storage.

Boot PC with everything plugged in except case fans.

Boot PC with everything plugged in except front IO.

Boot PC with everything plugged in except and so on.

It's gotta be something power/electricity related.

Do you think that could be the problem?

Everything is brand new out of the box.

Is this OK

The GPU works in another pc so now I'm presuming it's the PSU.
