so I have an ASUS M415D laptop with AMD ATHLON, initially my laptop memory is 4gb, then I saw on the internet the max memory is 12 gb, so I immediately installed it with 8 gb ram (with dual rank), then when I checked on cpu-z it says FSB:DRAM Async, did I choose the memory wrong or should I use the 4gb+4gb configuration

RAM and front side bus (FSB) running asynchronously isn't necessarily an issue, it simply means their clocks aren't synchronized to one another. Normally you'd expect to see something like 1:12 here, meaning the FSB runs at its usual 100 MHz and the RAM runs at 12x that, i.e. 1200 MHz (2400 MT/s).

They likely still do, just the timing at which they run is slightly offset (e.g. the second tick of the FSB doesn't happen at exactly the same time as the 13th tick of the DRAM)

8+4 means you only get 4+4 GB running in dual channel and the remaining 4 GB running in single channel. Not necessarily the best in terms of performance, but likely still better than only having 8 GB in total.
