n3krO Build Thread

Go to solution Solved by aricleather,

Wait a week and a half for devil's canyon. Will be worth it.

I also just recommended the VG248QE to another guy, if you want 1080p 144hz.

I'm making a build aimed for a 1200 Eur budget (not including SO nor CPU Fan)

I'm also buying a 24" 1080p 144hz monitor (144hz mainly for LoL and CSGO)

The computer will be aimed at gaming (not only the 2 games mentioned above but also for most graphic intensive singleplayers).

I'm upgrading because my actual rig has already 6 years and the gpu i bought 3 years ago is already being bottlenecked by my cpu.

My Plan:

CPU: Intel Core i5 4670k

MoBo: Asus Maximus VII Ranger

Ram: 2 x G.Skill TridentX DDR3 8Gb 1600Mhz CL7

HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 3TB 64MB

Case: Corsair Carbide 400R

PSU: Corsair RM850 80 Plus

GPU: Gigabyte GTX 770 2 Gb

Disc Driver: Samsung SH-224DB Writter DVD 24x OEM

This PC costs 1111.85 Eur in the place i'm buying it (www.pccomponentes.com if you want to take price references for suggestions).

My idea was that, like this computer, the new computer would last AT LEAST 6 years, but i'd like if it could last 9 years. How i want to do that? I want to buy a new GPU each 3 generations and most probably on the nvidia's 70 and amd's 80 models (GTX 770 and R9 280x this generation) since i think they are the most suitable perfomance/price gpus for my needs.

My problem is that i'm afraid i'll happen again that my CPU bottlenecks my GPU after the first upgrade (And as i said i intend to upgrade twice), and that's the main reason i'm creating this thread, to know your opinion on the subject.

Just to add some more informations i'll be buying a Noctua NH-D15 when it's re-stocked and i'll slowly buy more and more fans to fill all the fans mounts on my case so i'll most probably be able to overclock my cpu at least to 4.2 Ghz.while maintaining 60ºC at gaming.

I carefully looked into buying a 2x8Gb ram setup so that if that ends up being short i'd buy another 2x8Gb ram and i got the CL7 because it's only 5 Eur pricer than CL9.

So guys do you see anything i should change or do you think i'll be able to keep my computer for as long as i want or i'm just being foolish? :D

Uhm, Devil's Canyon is the new cpu from intel right? I asume the DDR4 ain't for now cause Z97 just shipped and as far as i know it's DDR3 exclusive.

For the monitor, i'll be buying the XL2411Z from BenQ

Could you say something on the 6 vs 9 years lifetime? My computer is 6 years old with Q9550 and GTX 560 and i still can play everygame on medium 1080p and have 30+ fps so i guessed that aiming for high end this time i'd be able to squeze 3 more years.

Devils canyon is on Z97 and are the unlocked versions of the Haswell refresh. They are DDR3. DDR4 should be 100-series chipsets.
