Finalizing Build

Go to solution Solved by skimmilk5,

If you're not strapped for space, I'd go with an ATX motherboard. It'll give you some more options in the future should you want to add more expansion. Full ATX motherboards also tend to have more headers on them for things like fans and RGB (if that's your jam).

The SSD gives me some pause, as I can't confirm whether it has a DRAM cache on it, and the pictures on Solidigm's website appear to not show a DRAM chip on the board. DRAM caches are important for SSDs, as they allow the SSD to store commonly accessed resources on the DRAM instead of the more write-sensitive NAND packages. Not having a DRAM cache will negatively impact the lifespan and performance of the drive.

The RGB fans on your cooler and the case fans appear to be compatible with your motherboard (addressable 5V RGB headers), but you might not have enough of them. Looking in the manual for the ASRock motherboard that you have selected, I can only find 3 total addressable RGB headers, not 4. You would need 4, one for each case fan, plus one for the CPU cooler fan). You have enough headers for fan power (I counted six, four needed).

I'm not going to be able to help with clearance, I'm afraid, but PCPartPicker hasn't flagged anything. The biggest incompatibility would be cooler and chassis, but that seems to have passed validation.

Budget (including currency): $600 USD

Country: United States

Games, programs, or workloads that it will be used for: I would like to play games on ultra/high settings above 60 fps.

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Hello, I am about to finish picking out parts for my build. Are there any clearance issues at all, how would the fans receive power and RGB, and is there any advantage of going micro-ATX vs. ATX (I'm not limited on space.)

Thank you so much for this information! I think I might opt for a non RGB cpu cooler. Also, I will probably be upgrading the storage since I do have a little bit of budget to spare.
