Specs of the PC are as follows:

Ryzen 7 5800X3D

B550F ROG Strix Gaming

RTX 4090

Seasonic 850W Power Supply

1 TB SN850X

500GB Corsair MP600

16 GB 3600MHz DDR4

I can do additional specs if needed. I got the RTX 4090 around June, and June-August 15th there were no problems. But I moved into college on the 15th, and we took the PC with us. We were very careful and wrapped it up in the case it came with and secured it. The PC started without fail once we arrived at college.

I'm not sure when the first restart was, but if I had to guess I would say it was 2-3 weeks after school started. Basically, both monitors would just shut off, but the PC would stay on. It would then restart windows and would be back to normal. Windows Event viewer shows event ID 41. At first, it didn't happen that frequently. I thought it was initially a power problem with the school, because I noticed it would happen in the mornings a lot. But then it started happening in other times as well.

It all came to a head where I couldn't start my PC at all without it immediately shutting down. At that point, I called my dad and he came and took the PC back home. Once back home, the PC booted up again, only to have the same problem happen. So the first thing I did was check all of the connections to the PC, and see if it was anything loose. All good there. Next, we went down to micro center to get a new power supply (the one I have currently). The problem still happened. Finally, we switched the ram back to some older ram that we had around, and the problem stopped for 2 and a half months. I thought the RAM was the problem.

2 days ago, however, it happened again. Just once, but it was the same problem. I'm freaking out this time, because if it's a graphics card issue I don't know if I screwed up the warranty by bringing it to college, or what. I don't get why the system does this. I don't think instinctively it's a GPU issue because windows completely restarts. My only explanation is that the motherboard makes the RAM go bad somehow, or that the CPU is possibly somehow screwed up.

If you have any suggestions I would love hear them. Currently the system is working, but I just have such anxiety about it and I would love your feedback.

Let me also mention that it doesn't matter what I was doing. I could be playing a game, or watching a video, it doesn't matter, it would still randomly restart. Temps are also fine, idle GPU around 30, CPU around 40.

It sounds like a PSU problem. Could be transient spikes from your CPU and GPU happening at just the right time to trip the PSU. You “might” need a higher wattage PSU, but from what I’ve been reading and 850 watt should be enough.

Have you updated your BIOS? There have been several BIOS updates for your motherboard to improve system stability and one or two updates specifically for your CPU

Oh I did forget to mention one thing. The reason why I think it's a motherboard issue is that on my old RAM, when we posted the PC once, the motherboard LED was orange. Once we got it to post, it did the same thing, instant black screen. So what I did was change the slots of the RAM from duel channel to 2 and 3 i believe, and that actually caused a BSOD rather than instant black screen.

In terms of motherboard BIOS, I've done one update when I first got the CPU a year ago, as it wasn't boosting at all, and a bios fix was in store. I haven't done any since, but I will give that a shot when I'm able to. Any other suggestions could be huge.

ONE more thing I forgot to mention. Down at college, when it was doing it fairly regularly, sometimes when it shut off, I couldn't even hold down the power button to turn off the pc.. there would be a weird clicking noise and some weird lights that I couldn't identify inside of the PC as well. I had to flip the power supply switch to actually restart it.
