Corsair CX430?

a choice is a choice, so it's ultimately your call what happens

This build is sellable, with or without better PSU since it works.

With current PSU it's more work for you and your conscience though. (I'd have guilt issues if I sold such unit myself even if the seller got noted-warned about PSUs capability)

With new PSU your conscience would be resting and you can skip explaining how PSUs and wattage works to the potential sellers.

Hi.

I have built a PC with the following specs:

  • Ryzen 5 1600
  • Radeon RX570
  • Corsair CX430
  • Kingston HyperX 16GB (2x8)
  • Kingston NV1 500GB

My main concern is the following: is the Corsair CX430 sufficient for this build? Looking around online I have found people recommending between 450 and 550 watts for this kind of config. The CX430 also has a very audible coil whine (same was the case for the CX500 that I used to own). I have played a couple of games and I haven't run into any issues. My intention for this system is to sell it once I am finished with it, so I am not sure if I should look around for a better power supply before doing so.

Thanks in advance!

it's not a *good* power supply, but unless you're in a fairly hot climate or have a very dusty room, i wouldnt say it requires "immediate" replacement.

presuming this is a build put together with parts you had on the shelf, the power supply is "defenately better than not having one" sort of category.

When it comes to PSUs, I have a cautious approach so I would recommend to go for an 550W PSU just to be sure. With an 430W PSU, it will be also difficult to upgrade to a more powerful GPU, if the buyer wants to.

That's a good point I haven't thought of, thank you.

Yeah, the CX430 was one of my two leftover PSUs. The other one is some incomplete 500W modular Chieftec, but I have read that trying to collect cables for it is a pointless endeavor due to the lack of standards around modular PSU cables.

it's good for this kind of build, the 450W suggested PSU and 150W TDP on RX 570 doesn't really put too much strain on the system, the system draws barely more than 300W approximately, at least for most of the time

I'm mostly concerned by the reliability, as I haven't had much experience with Corsair PSUs in general. Personally I doubt someone will be buying this system for overclocking.

I mean the system itself works, but any major upgrade, be it CPU or GPU, would be too much for the CX430, or cutting it close

Thats fair. There are quite a few more powerful but older Corsair PSUs for sale around here, do you think its a good call to get one of those?

Gotcha, thank you. I'll be buying a beefier one then, with the the advice in the thread.
