Office PC for AutoCAD, Ideally with Thunderbolt 4

Budget: $1000-$1500 USD, but willing to go higher if I must.

Location: Utah, USA

Software:

  • AutoCAD --- I mainly work in 2D for editing large floor plans, rack elevations, and wiring diagrams, but my web-based theater design software (The Cinema Designer) occasionally requires me to open up and work with 3D files using AutoCAD.
  • Microsoft Visio (desktop)
  • D-Tools System Integrator (desktop)
  • Adobe Illustrator
  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Adobe Premiere Pro (on rare occasions)
  • Adobe Audition (on rare occasions)
  • Modus VR *

* I don't plan on running Modus VR for at least a year or two. It's residential and commercial 3D rendering focused on AV systems. All they recommend on their website is to get a good "gaming" computer and a VR headset. Probably high CPU clock, single-threaded, with a decent GPU, but for now I'm fine keeping the GPU as minimal as required for AutoCAD.

Pre-Built or Custom: I don't necessarily care whether it's a pre-built or a custom build I assemble myself, but I'd like to get this thing up and running within 15-24 days at most. I've never built a PC before, but if the overall price and shipping time is drastically better, and if warranties on the most important parts are excellent, I'll totally do it.

Other Hardware: I have two LG UltraFine 4K displays and a Thunderbolt 4 NAS hooked up via my Anker Thunderbolt 4 dock. I tried the online configurator from XoticPC, but the only Thunderbolt 4 option required the Asus ProArt Creator motherboard which seemed really expensive. I've read online that a Thunderbolt 4 card is much cheaper, but I've also read that those cards don't always work reliably, and the set up documentation leaves a lot to be desired. I figured I'd see what people here recommended. Maybe I'll have to skip Thunderbolt 4 altogether and downgrade to USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 which means replacing my dock, lol. I don't care if it's AMD or Intel.

I am human. I'm scared of the dark, and I get toothaches. My name is Frill. Don't pretend not to see me. I was born from the two of you.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
