Not sure how to start this, so I'm just going to... well do something, which is how I got myself here.

I got a 2.5 ssd and decided to finally move my OS from a hard drive to the ssd. I used some software to do this and it worked, until it didn't and I ended up splitting an important partition between the hard drive and ssd- still booted though.

Anyway, after getting a general idea just how badly I messed up, I decided to go a different route, which is what I should have went with the first time. I made a system image and put a fresh install of windows on the ssd. Which was going great until the system image failed to image the system.

Onto the issue. I have about 300GB of data on my hard drive. So, my question is how/what is the best/proper way to move 300GB of crap from the hard drive to the SSD and it all works properly so I can essentially pick up where I left off?

Have you just done a new install of 10 on the formatted SSD?  Then you can access the HDD as a secondary drive on the system.

If need be, just take out the HDD and boot into a Win 10 USB stick with only the SSD in the system.

May help to know more about the system, like SSD, HDD, software used.

You could have cloned the HDD to the SSD, provided the SSD is bigger.
