Hey guys,

I'm looking for a laptop I can put a few Linux distros on. I've narrowed it down to the Lenovo 11.6 inch laptops. My budget is $500 US max (preferably lower) than another $80 US for a SSD to put in it. They go up to an i3 processor for $512 US but I'm not sure I'll need all that power (even though that isn't "power" compared to my i7 but compared to the other lower processors its powerful). So I guess the question is do I splurge and get the ThinkPad X131e ( http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/thinkpad/x-series/x131e-intel/?sb=:00000025:00003410: ) or do I get a low end model like the S215 ( http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/lenovo/s-series/s215/?sb=:000001C9:000111FC: )

Here are all the models if you don't mind looking at them and recommending one.  http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/#/?facet-1=1&page-index=1

Let me know if the links don't work.

    Thank you for the help

What about using something like the Acer C720? You can get the 4gb version on amazon for $240 new, or $220 refurbished (http://www.amazon.com/Acer-NX-SHEAA-004-C720-2844-11-6-Inch-Laptop/dp/B00GZB88MU) and then install Linux either through crouton, and keep ChromeOS installed, or by just wiping ChromeOS off it completely, and running just Linux. The second option is a bit harder though. Additionally, if you want more space, there is a 128gb ssd up on amazon for I think around $100

Why not just getting something along the lines of this. It doesn't take much to run Linux, and as long as you're using it for the basics a ultrabook Celeron is more than enough. It will extend your battery life a lot compared to beefy mobile processors. Buy a 840 EVO 120 GB and the day you get it don't even bother power it on, just remove the factory drive and drop in the SSD. Then you can install Linux fresh onto the new SSD.
