new hard drive

Hi guys I have a wd external drive for my pictures and stuff it is 17 years old should I get a new one or just store in cloud?

How much data do you need to back up?

 

Always remember the 3-2-1 rule for backups:

- 3 Copies of data

- 2 Different types of media

- 1 Copy off-site

 

I'd definitely replace that hard drive, just based on age.

Start with backups. In the cloud, on another disk and then find a replacement unit. Back up to that also, then continue to use the current one till it dies.
