Came back home a couple days ago (moved my PC), hooked up my PC, everything seemed fine. I was able to go in to my emails and print something off real quick. Then I tried opening Silhouette Studio (program for my cutting machine) and it wouldn't open. Went in to task manager, saw that it supposedly had Silhouette Studio x3 open, so I tried to close them.... task manager stopped responding. Tried restarting at that point. It got stuck on "closing task manager" before rebooting for 10 minutes and I got impatient so I forced a shutdown by holding the power button. Now when I try turning it on, it brings up the initial startup screen and just stays on that screen with the little loading icon and a message saying "Performing Automatic Repair".  Also while my mouse and keyboard both still work, the lights on both stopped working at the exact same time. Not sure how related this might be.

I've let it sit at this screen for over 24 hours, as well as another forced shut down and let it sit again for several hours. After browsing online I've tried the following (advice given by others with the same issue).

1- reseat the ram

2- attempt, but failed to boot in safe/recovery mode.

3- No debug lights are on.

4- physical inspection

5-Im able to go into the bios and I did so to check the boot order, which it had my hard-drive first so I didn't change anything.

Its a prebuilt pc I got in 2018 from Cyberpower. The wattage of the psu is not listed anywhere, but here are the other specs.

Intel 8400 cpu

1060 gpu

16gigs of ram 2x8

Both a 1tb hard-drive and a 256g ssd

You can try booting into safe mode and see if the problem still occurs then you can boot into the recovery environment. From there you can try system repair etc. If that doesn't work then you can do a clean install of Windows. If all else fails then consider contacting support.

Have you tried turning it off and on again? Maybe Restart it?

Im about to go through the process of reinstalling windows. Is this about right.

Format a usb drive.

Go online and install windows on said drive.

Insert drive into broken computer.

Boot into bios and select the usb drive as the boot drive.

Then I'm kinda lost. How would I uninstall the previous version of windows? Every video i watch is different in some way so idk which advice to follow 😞

Yes, that Is about right. You’ll need to link your Microsoft account to your digital license before you reinstall Windows. This is so that you can just sign into your Microsoft account and you should have access to your windows license. If this doesn't work, you can always just steal a license from another device with windows on it as long as it isn't a OEM copy.

Sadly its not working. I made the usb drive and set it as my boot drive, and now it turns on, gives me a windows logo and a loading icon, then loads for a few minutes because saying "we ran into a problem, restarting your PC". Its just a loop 😞

It’s probably still trying to boot from the SSD.

You can force boot menu with one of the f8-F12 keys (just mash them all when you first boot before you get to bios screen). Then select usb and it should work.

If that still doesn’t work, you likely have an issue with the SSD. You can try unplugging it and installing on the HDD to rule that out.

Ok this got me somewhere. Youre first suggestion didn't change anything, but removing the ssd gave me the option to install windows windows on the hard-drive. This means my ssd is toast correct? If so instead of installing windows on the hard-drive ill just pick up a new ssd today and install it on that if possible.

Also thanks for taking the time to help!

Yes, seems like the drive is toast.

Got the new ssd. The bios is not recognizing it though (reseated it several times), nor do I see it as an option to install windows on. Oddly enough it still shows the old 256g drive in the bios. What should I do here? I'm considering disconnecting the remaining hard-drive and just trying to install windows.

If the option for the old 256gb drive is still available, then it seems like that must be an issue with the motherboard. Have you tried resetting the CMOS battery?

Have you tried turning it off and on again? Maybe Restart it?
