Hello I just installed my 5800x coming from a 3600 and I’ve noticed some pretty high temperatures from the cpu. Sitting in the bios is around 50c, idle in the desktop is 40c ish with frequent spikes to 50-70c with little to no load. Under stress test temps jump to 90 degrees almost instantly. I know this cpu is hot but dang. My cooler is a scythe Mugen b and I have an AP201 so plenty of airflow/cooling in theory. I’ve also reseated the cooler multiple times and used multiple pastes. The cooler also feels Relatively cool to the touch for a chip running anywhere between 50-90c consistently. Are these temps normal for a 5800x? Would appreciate any advice or 2nd opinion.
thank you

They can be. ~40C idle, and 90C under full load is about what I'd expect from a 5800X, they do stay pegged to the thermal limits pretty much all the time. The only way to really measure cooling performance on a modern CPU though is to measure the performance, as they're all designed with complicated boost algorithms that will vary how much performance they have rather than their temps.

What are your Cinebench R23 scores? Cinebench 2024 would also work, though since it's so new not many people (including myself) have learned how the scores line up yet, it's usually easier to just do R23.

Try checking your CPU VID/core voltages in hwinfo64; your board might be pushing more voltage than the CPU needs (happened to me, was getting 1.5V out of the box). Even if your board isn't overvolting your CPU, you might just want to run a small undervolt anyways.

Keep the chip stock and just lower the voltage using the offset feature in your bios, -0133mv will lower temps substantially.

I suggest spending as long as you need tuning your systems fans in your bios too.
