Threadripper 7000 water block questions

SG-O

Am I right in assuming that the sTRX4 blocks are compatible with the new sTR5 socket chips?

Update: EK have updated the product pages I mentioned and it is now official that sTR5 is supported for all three product lines.

If yes could anyone help me understand the differences between the following blocks (besides the obvious difference in looks / inlet orientation):

EK-Quantum Magnitude sTRX4

EK-Pro CPU WB sTR Rack

EK-Pro CPU WB sTR

Thanks in advance!

P.S.: The build this is intended for is being worked on in this thread:

I'm not sure if all sTRX4 waterblocks are compatiable with sTR%. But AMD does have a list of compatible coolers for threadripper 7000: https://www.amd.com/en/thermal-solutions-threadripper

The EK-Quantum Magnitude block is full nickel, which makes it look very nice in a gaming or high end desktop, but doesn't actually affect performance. But it does have a more tuned so that it can better cool the 4 CCDs.

The two EK-Pro waterblocks are essentially the same, but they are made of nickel and plastic to make them cheaper because servers don't need to have pretty looking waterblocks. The Rack one is designed for 1U servers, which is 1.75" tall.

Overall I think the performance will be pretty similar between the 3 of them, however the EK-Quantum Magnitude might be better by a few degrees. But I'm not really sure it would be worth that much extra money for a few degrees. Plus it may not end up being compatibale with 7th gen Threadripper.

The problem with this list is that there are no blocks for custom loops mentioned...

There are other, cheaper non full nickel versions available. I just linked to this one as a standin for the whole lineup.

Does anyone know of benchmarks comparing these? I did quite a bit of research on them before posting and wasn't able to find anything about the Pro lineup...

I have a fairly newly built loop for my TR Pro 5975wx system with an all copper Quantum Magnitude (they don't make this one anymore) CPU block. That chip is rated at 280W. I wanted to overclock it and contacted EK to see how much I could push it and they said, and I quote.

Hello again,

sorry for the late reply.
The water block should handle 330W.
Check what kind of contact you have between the CPU and the water block.

So, that's only 330W. I would have thought the all copper version would handle more than 330W. I'm bummed because I have all the parts to build my 7975wx system, but now I have to find a new waterblock.

Thanks for this information! I assume that the cold plate is still the same in the Quantum Magnitude models they make today. So EK is probably out of the race...

New question: Has anyone experience with the AlphaCool or Watercool Threadripper Blocks ? 😆

More specifically these models:
