Budget: Preferably up to £700, as it won't be a "daily driver", but I'm flexible

Country: UK

Workload: C/C++, GPU, other programming; web browsing (with a billion tabs open xD)

Monitors: Have a 1080p horizontal monitor, considering buying a second vertical one

Peripherals: Have keyboard/mouse

Linux on laptops is a pain, so I would like to build my first desktop. I use a company M1 MacBook Pro for work, and have a new-ish Windows laptop for web browsing and some Windows dev.

I have a spare 2TB M.2 NVMe SSD I plan to use. I would probably go with 2x16GiB RAM. Preference for a quiet build that will "work" if the graphics card doesn't. I would probably go with AMD AM4 (AFAIK AM5 CPUs are more power hungry) for CPU and GPU, but would consider Intel or AM5, as NVIDIA has been a pain on my Linux laptop.

Would appreciate any advice on remaining parts or alternatives. Should I buy thermal paste separately?
