is 2x140mm or 3x120mm intake enough? (Fractal POP Air XL or other case options)

Supersonicwolfe

I'm considering getting a new case after moving, not bringing my current case CoolerMaster MasterCase 500P with me

Hardware: 5800X3D, 3080 Aorus Master v3, 2x 2.5inch drive 3x3.5 inch drive

*Regarding the HDD, 2 of these are my back up drive, so realistically I only need to keep one installed, while the other two currently are controlled using a SATA power switch, turned off when not needed/syncing, if there is optical drive, I can take out one drive when not in use.

Cooler I'm considering DeepCool AK620 or something like that, or a 24/280mm AIO, should be more than enough for 5800X3D

I want something more modern, minimum requirement is the case need to able to house 3 x 3.5 inch drive. Ideally with USB-C and optical drive bay (for just quick swap back up drives)

Fractal POP or Fractal POP XL immediately came into my mind ,

But seems only POP XL supports 3x120mm, while both support 2x140mm. From the reviews seems 2x120mm from the Pop Air is not enough, at least not great for GPU temperature.

So should I go with XL? or regular POP Air is sufficient?

Fractal POP Air + USB-C + 1 Drive cage = 101 USD (Actually, I don't need to spend 11 extra USD for the additional drive cage, use one of the optical bay to install a HDD hot swap bay which I believe I do have)

Fractal POP Air XL + USB-C = 119 USD

Other cases I'm considering

LianLi Lancool III  137 USD (It's my original first choice, even support 3x140mm but no stock for black ones...)

Fractal Meshify 170 USD (too expensive...)

Coller Master MC Pro 5 81 USD (Basically the same case as what I have now... with no more USB 2.0 ports... and no USB-C)

Pop air is sufficient and 2x140 is just fine.

I actually found a deal for LianLi Lancool 3 at 116 USD which is quite enticing, not sure to go with that or Fractal Pop XL.

I have the lancool II and don't really like it.  Fractal cases are better made.   Usually more expensive but worth it IMO.

If I was building now, I'd build in the Fractal North.

Well that thing is sold out every where...

I actually helped my BF build his, in a Lancool II Mesh and it's pretty good aside from the hole on the bottom of the front panel... plugged it with a sponge.

Where?

I've been using computers since around 1978, started learning programming in 1980 on Apple IIs, started learning about hardware in 1990, ran a BBS from 1990-95, built my first Windows PC around 2000, taught myself malware removal starting in 2005 (also learned on Bleeping Computer), learned web dev starting in 2017, and I think I can fill a thimble with all that knowledge. 😉 I'm not an expert, which is why I keep investigating the answers that others give to try and improve my knowledge, so feel free to double-check the advice I give.

My phone's auto-correct is named Otto Rong.🤪😂

China.

Namely JD.com, and it's from LianLi's "official store" there.

They are doing their annual 11.11 sale, aka China's Black Friday.

Don't think they ship to other places but a very nice deal. (Funny in China Lancool 3 is called “鬼斧2”)

Interesting.
