Budget (including currency): $800 AUD

Country: Australia

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Fortnite, daily browsing etc

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

I am looking to upgrade my PC. I am happy with my GPU (6600XT), I think I just need to upgrade my CPU and motherboard.

I play a few games but mostly fortnite, where I run 1440p at 144hz comfortably on low/medium.

My budget is around $800 AUD. I'm good with building and everything, but would just like some advice in a decent upgrade that will last a few years. I am also looking for advice on any parts I could keep and which I should upgrade.

Here is my current build:

What do you want to achieve with a CPU upgrade?

I find that some tasks feel slow, like opening games and programs. Some games feel a bit stuttery even on low settings. I would also like to upgrade to windows 11 (I love having newest versions of programs).

I also find my ram usage to be around 75-80% when gaming and browsing on my second monitor, and wondering if that warrants upgrading to 32gb.

2 x 512gb wd green sata ssd

1tb spinning disk can’t remember the brand but is only used for storage

You can use the stock cooler and eliminate the NVMe drive to save a bit. Theoretically the H100i v2 could be reused, but an LGA 1700 bracket would be needed. I suspect the AIO is approaching EOL, it may not be worth reusing.

Thanks so much! Are there any real drawbacks in having i5 over i7? Considering gaming is my most common use case?

Playing at 1440p the GPU is going to be the limiting factor.

The CPU was selected to better fit the budget. Six performance cores should be fine for current titles.
