Hi people,

Recently I have been getting random warnings from my system of things being out of whack.

They are for my CPU, NB and SB. They vary from too much/little voltage or too high/low temp.

It has warned me, for example, that my CPU was -136 C, so....

A photo of one of the warnings I got is attached below.

Some specs:

MB: Crosshair V Formula

CPU: AMD FX-4170

OS: Win 7 64x

I think it may be related to me cloning my OS disk to a new disk, but it isnt the first time I have gotten it. I cloned it because I had to reinstall my OS before and all the hassel of reconnecting all my programs just didnt feel like it was worth it. Does anybody know of a quick fix for this problem???

My thanks in advance.

the drivers are in order, that is for sure.

Also, not asked but just some extra info, I did check all my connections on the mb just to be sure.

I'll give the CMOS a try when I have time.

It may be a bit newbie, so forgive me, but what should I expect to happen when I do a CLR CMOS???

Clearing the CMOS should just wipe the BIOS settings back to their defaults.  It won't harm anything.  Are you using ASUS AI Suite?  Ugh.  Uninstall that :(

Also are you monitoring your voltages and temperatures with other utilities to verify these (obviously) erroneous warnings?  I usually like to use CPU-Z and HWiNFO

Why is AI Suite bad??? I know the temp readings are off by about 10 degrees, but what else is wrong with it??? And just need to find a spare USB for the bios. Would resetting the to factory from within the bios itself not be the same? (I'll do the CMOS, but just wondering what the difference is.)

AI Suite is really just kind of bloatware.  I used to use it (because I figured...why not?) but the "EZ" overclocking is very, very, very bad - it pushes the voltages to dangerously high levels for only moderate OC's.  Overclocking should absolutely be done in the BIOS, especially since ASUS BIOS is so easy to navigate and there are countless how-to videos on safely overclocking by incremental steps.  Everything else in AI Suite can be done by more efficient third-party software like CPU-Z and HWiNFO.  I've also had headaches in the past dealing with errors in my Event Viewer that ended up stemming from AI Suite.  They were mostly just a nuisance since I'm pretty uptight with errors in the event log, but the only solution was ultimately to just get rid of AI Suite entirely.

I mean, if you like it, that's fine.  I just highly recommend that you use better stuff for the monitoring aspects, and never ever ever use the AI Suite "EZ overclock" to overclock your CPU.  I *know* it might seem intimidating to do it through the BIOS if you've never done that before, but trust me it is super easy and the learning curve is not that steep.  Using the EZ OC feature in AI Suite could potentially put your voltages up to dangerous levels and cause major stability issues (and possibly fry your CPU).

Oh, and yeah resetting it to factory should essentially do the same thing but I'd honestly just do it with the button on the motherboard.  That's how I've done it since the feature was implemented and I no longer had to pop out the battery.

Thank goodness I have only used AI Suite to set the CPU fan speed xD

I have only overclocked my cpu once and that was from within the bios, but I reverted it back to standard because I had no practical use for the overclock (was just fun to do). For the rest of the monitoring I just use Speccy and C-/GPU-Z. Provide more information that I actually need. But I'll uninstall it.

Oh then yeah you should be ok.  Worst case scenario, if you really want to be thorough, you can check your voltages with a volt-ohm meter (multimeter) to make sure everything is within tolerances on your PSU.  Of course with those whacky numbers it definitely seems like a software issue, but there is always the remote possibility that something hardware-related is going - I just really doubt it.

okay, something weird. I usually got warnings every 15 minutes, but I removed AI Suite as WastedSpaceman said, and havent had a single warning yet. I think that cloning my harddrive made AI Suite more broken than it was first. But should I still do a CLR CMOS???

Well, the warnings went away because AI Suite was displaying them.  Since you uninstalled AI Suite, there's no program left on the computer to annoy you with those little pop ups.  I would clear the CMOS if you say any issues with temperatures and voltages in other utilities.  Just keep an eye on things for a couple days and if there aren't any issues, don't worry about doing anything at all.  If they continue, clear the CMOS and re-evaluate things afterwards.
