Build Advice

Go to solution Solved by Why_Me,

Change your RAM to AMD Expo and look for a case with more fans. The 120mm fan goes inside the back of that case for an exhaust fan.

Other details:
I am planning to essentially start over with my pc. The only things i may be keeping from my prior build is the 750w Power supply and the recently purchased 4070 Ti. I would appreciate any critiques with reasons to help me understand where i may be going wrong.

Looks tidy! Should be everything you need, would you consider an SSD instead of a HDD as it will run faster and last longer for not much more, that NVME will be your driving force though so if not for the SSD the HDD will be perfectly adequate! If you have the extra cash, youve said 2000-2300 and the PSU and GPU you already have take up 1k of the part pickers 2K cost, does this mean you have 1k to spare? maybe up the RAM? nothing too serious but possibly something like

2x24gb corsair vengeance 6400MHz CL36

Which is another 16gb, faster clock speed and the same latency for a hair extra

System specs:

CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D [-30 PBO all core]

GPU: Sapphire AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX NITRO+

Motherboard: MSI MAG B650 TOMAHAWK WIFI

RAM: G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO RGB 32GB 6000MHz CL32 DDR5

Storage: 2TB SN850X, 1TB SN850 w/ heatsink, 500GB P5 Plus (OS Storage)

Case: 5000D AIRFLOW

Cooler: Thermalright Frost Commander 140

PSU: Corsair RM850e

Case Fans: Fractal Prisma (120 x6, 140 x3) + 2x40mm fans

The 4000D comes with a single 120mm front intake fan and a 120mm rear exhaust fan. The Fractal Design Focus 2 comes with 2x140mm front intake fans.

Ah i get you now, though with a build like that, @Jeffrey_Barney could fire in a few extra fans to the case anyway

I would honestly dump the HDD if it'd a gaming pc , they don't belong on a relatively high budget gaming pc.

I mean, for storing odd bits and bobs not needed for fast access its a decent, viable solution. I play dnd on my gaming rig and keep all files, images etc on a HDD as i dont need them to be instant access. Ik op specified gaming, if its for solely gaming and not a drop else then i agree but otherwise price to capacity its a good option.

But @Jeffrey_Barney if youre doing nothing else that wouldnt care about slower storage then yes, id also recommend a good SSD in place of the HDD, or even get another NVME for handiness sake, either a higher tier and swap that 2TB into a storage instead of a workhorse. Or go for like a slower much cheaper NVME thats cheap for the capacity but will still leave an SSD in the dust, for honestly the same price

The problem is he could spend another $30 and get a 2TB m.2 instead , even less if you throw in a sata drive.

I only really see harddrive viability when you get to extreme levels of storage density.

The days of having to spend 4-5 times as much for a SSD are over.

The Fractal + 120mm exhaust fan comes in at 88.47. The 4000D cost 104.99 before adding another front exhaust fan.

2x140mm > 2x120mm
