So, I'm thinking about custom building a PC sometime as an upgrade to my 6 year old acer laptop that barely runs my browser, and im looking for a mid-tier budget build for mainly gaming. I've got a list of parts that i currently have, with my budget being about 1200-1300 CAD. I've done a bit of research, but Im just looking for suggestions on what I should change. I'll take this and modify it as needed for me, for stuff like desk space and other preferred things, but thanks!

5500 + 6800 + 32gb 3600c18

Build can be improved a ton, but this build is still horrible by my standards because lotta new overpriced parts when used gets you much better parts for the same price

5600(x) can be picked up used for around the same price or cheaper than a new 5500, means that you wont have to clock the rams 4600+ to get good performance, basically no risk when it comes to buying a used cpu

For the price of this new 6800 you should be able to buy a used 6800/6900xt or a 3080(ti) instead which are much better cards

You should also be able to pick up a quality <5yo 850w gold like the rm(x) for the same price as this new giga psu, no risk here either and i have experience with buying used psus so far theyre holding up just fine (3 good used units all <20$ albiet pretty old i bet)

Not a good memory choice. Spend a few $ more and get https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/wNt9TW/teamgroup-t-create-expert-32-gb-2-x-16-gb-ddr4-3200-cl16-memory-ttced432g3200hc16fdc01

Best Buy current offers a good price on https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/nkddnQ/seagate-barracuda-q5-1-tb-m2-2280-nvme-solid-state-drive-zp1000cv3a001. Saves enough to get the better memory.

If you're going with the RX 6700, I would revert the PSU, because 500 in your spec is borderline (XFX recommend 650) and EVGA only give a 5 year warranty on this PSU whereas the A650GF has a 10 year warranty. I chose it from this review.

FYI: the Crucial memory in my spec is a bit slow, but it doesn't need XMP/DOCP. If you buy gaming memory then it will, but if you're fine with enabling it in the BIOS, then it doesn't matter.

As I said in my post, I know next to nothing about mice/keyboards, but they're taking a lot of the budget for your PC, are you sure that's what you want?

I don't know if you noticed, but the monitor in my spec was larger and 1440p and the RX 6700 is powerful enough to handle it.

ok i changed back the PSU, good points, and ill make sure to change the monitor, as its only about 10 dollars more expensive at a better quality, and only puts me 20 dollars overbudget, which i can handle
