Silly Windows 8 Question

@Roby Just buy an OEM copy of Window 8.1 put the disk in and install.

This probably sounds really silly, but I honestly cannot find a clear answer (nor a clear purchase method). Do I need to be running Windows (XP/Vista/7) to install a fresh copy of Windows 8? I haven't had Windows for a few years but I'd like to throw it on my laptop (that is currently 100% wiped of Windows and running Linux).

nope you don't need xp/7/etc

Nope just put disc in and clear the HDD, then install Win 8

I think its requires a moderner windows OS if your windows 8 is the "upgrade version". Otherwise if its OEM or system builder you don't need it.
