Laptop sleep mode problem

I've been dealing with this problem for a while, I'll walk away from my laptop to go do something (get a drink, bathroom, whatever) and it will go into sleep mode, but not wake up.  The only thing that will wake the laptop up will be a fully hard reset.  The funny thing about this problem is that it doesn't always happen, sometimes it will wake up and others it will.  Does anyone know the problem and or the solution.  It's not the biggest deal, just annoying.
