Budget (including currency): 600-700€

Country: Croatia

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Some competitive games such as Valorant, PUBG, CS:GO, etc. With some AAA titles included, would like to try Hogwarts Legacy, also looking forward for Starfield and perhaps some things like that. To mention some programming as well in Python or such things. This will mostly be ran in 1080p, with possibility to move to 1440p eventually.

This is the part list of the components that I have now, plan is to upgrade from 1650 to let's say 4070, now prices of 4070 here are moving from 700-800+€, depending on the maufacturer. I could also go for an AMD card, since my goal is to play in 1080p, eventually 1440p, I do realize thta even 6700XT or 6800XT would be more than enough for that, and that I could get them for cheaper price than 4070. But both of these options are giving me anxious attacks, firstly, since my PSU is not modular, I am worried about those new pin connectors on some 4070 boards, since I don't know how they work, secondly, switching sides, going from an Nvidia GPU to AMD, I saw bunch of people complaining about poor performance and lots of issues after switching from "Green" to "Red" side. All I know, and am familiar with, is that in case of going from one side to other, that DDU is all that needs to be done, but I saw lot of people saying they had to reinstall Windows and such things, and honestly I don't wanna go through all that hustle if it's not needed. Thanks everyone in advance.

Non-modular PSU should not be a problem, provided it has sufficient capacity.

RTX 4070 require one 8-pin power connector. Models of GPU that use the new 12VHPWR connector come with an adapter into which 2 or 3 8-pin PSU connectors plug.

When switching GPU teams, completely uninstall the existing drivers and support software. Should be able to find guide to completely remove AMD/ Nvidia drivers on net. Power down, remove old GPU, install new and proceed.

My bad, this one should work, I am also planning to get better CPU, perhaps 5800X or 5800X3D

So I should be okay with getting board with new connector since they pack an adapter in the box, I'm just worried cause I saw lots of those connectors burned. But maybe it shouldn't be a problem here since 4070 doesn't draw that much power?

RTX 4070 does not use the new connector.

I believe the connector melting / burning issue has been traced to improperly seated connections, i.e. connector that was not plugged in all the way.

Some versions of cards do have the already mentioned connectors, for example, both MSI Ventus X3 and Gaming X Trio have it, while something like, Gigabyte windforce model, has only 8-pin connector, so it varies from card to card, some of them have it some not.

But thanks for replying and for assistance

Then the 7900 xt should be a great gpu for your new cpu and will perform better than the 4070

The 12V rail max is only around 675, its a multi rail unit from what i found around. I would replace the PSU on it if you're going this route.

Also, 7900XT is 800 euro right now, 6900XT is pretty much in that range though.
