hey guys! i'm excited to finally install holoiso on a pc with a AMD gpu! but there are some weird behaviors. now before i get any further, yes i have googled my issues.

here are my findings:

https://github.com/HoloISO/holoiso/issues/441

https://github.com/HoloISO/holoiso/issues/800

i recently upgraded my brothers old prebuilt ASUS G20 to a i7 4790 paired with an RX 5500xt (i may upgrade that down the road). the installation of HoloISO went smoothly, and game mode works as expected. but! when i do a system update and restart it will say i have another update. over and over again cycling through several of the same updates. also if i were to go into desktop mode and try to update whatever HoloISO flatpacks in the package manager, they say fail and stay on the "updates" tab. havent had much luck finding anything about that either.

https://github.com/HoloISO/holoiso/issues/801

but the most jarring issue is when returning from desktop mode to game mode. the screen goes black and the system becomes unresponsive. even with a hard reboot. i have had to test this issue multiple times and had to reinstall HoloISO each time. i think it may be tied to updates issue? idk. i downloaded some games from steam, they work as expected. but i would love to turn this machine into a emulation powerhouse! but if going into desktop mode bricks my OS thats going to be impossible.

so if anyone has any experience with any of these issues/ can help me out i would very much appreciate it.

thanks!

Next update,

Well I thought I had fixed up the black screen issue on boot but now we back to that. I went and cleared all my bios settings. Reconfigured everything. And nothing. I wonder if it's "verifying" my installation. But doesn't show anything. So I guess I'll leave it alone to see what happens. Wish me luck.

last update!!!!!

okay, i wasnt able to fix everything but here is my list of "fixes".

1. (OS black screen after reboot/ returning from desktop mode) make sure you have uefi boot enabled. also dont trust the google drive link for holoiso. i used their dedicated link, and it took forever to finish download but it works 10x better!

2.(update loops) ignore it. it wont go away.

3.(HoloISO flatpack update thingys) ignore it.

i hope this helps someone down the road
