Hello forums, currently I'm running a i7 8700k with a gtx 1080, and a z370-e motherboard. ive had it for a while now and now im looking to upgrade. I was thinking of getting a 4060 TI and just keeping the same CPU. A friend told me something about bottlenecking, is that something i need to worry about? do i need to upgrade my cpu too?

Hi and welcome to the Forum, glad to have you with us 🙂

The i7 8700k is an old CPU and there will be some CPU bottleneck but not enough to cause concern.  Here is a video going over 5 generations of Intel CPU's with an RTX 3090.  The 8700k keeps up surprisingly well in gaming!  I timestamped it right at the start of the gaming benchmarks.
You can keep the 8700k for now and maybe upgrade later if you want. You will see a very nice increase in FPS with the 4060ti even on the 8700k.
