In his video about hot takes, he claimed that no mouse other than the Magic Mouse scrolls smoothly when connected to Apple devices ,(please watch the video between 06:12 and 10:04), because of Apple  woo-woo. Has this claim ever been tested independently, by LTT or anyone else?

If his claim was true, some ambulance chaser somewhere would have put together a consortium of $2-to-$250 mouse manufacturers to sue the fruit company.

I look forward to everyone's insights, and maybe LTT Labs will look into making a "non-Apple mouse on Apple devices video.

Successfully suing anyone is expensive, time and resource consuming, and hard

Successfully suing the most valuable company in the world is damn near impossible and unfathomably expensive,  for a problem that dozens of people actually care about

I can confirm it... I bought the Magic Mouse just to scroll down web pages on my laptop. It's basically a mini portable trackpad in that regard. It sucks in every other way as a mouse, but the gesture controls are nice when I am in my recliner and surfing the web. And what's funny is the shape is perfect for the way I use it (which is not like a mouse at all).

Just a little more detail on this. I just a normal mouse for far too long at work and my right arm is generally numb by the weekend. I've grown to use the trackpad on my MacBook with my left hand in the evenings and weekends (to give my right hand a break), and I hold the Magic Mouse in my right hand and scroll using my thumb. I find it more ergonomic that way to split the duties between my hands.

No he did not lie.

MacAdress also talks about this issue specifically that no other mouse has the smooth scrolling accurate momentum movement.

But they also note that the mouse optical sensor is absolutely garbage, and inconsistent.

Let me expand on and restate what I just said: MKBHD recently made an excellent video regarding the fact that Apple does not like to share or promote technical details. DPI, polling rate, and other technical terms are not listed on the Magic Mouse's technical specification website. support.apple.com/kb/SP730?locale=en_US . But a quick Google search indicates that it has a DPI of 1300.

Ignoring the size, shape, and weight, how does the Magic Mouse compare to any other mouse suggested in the pinned "Before You Buy" thread? On an Apple device, would it be jerky, but smooth on a non-Apple device? Is it?

Edit : Are there any 1 on 1 tests other there? Say Magic against Logitech on both a new Macbook vs say a new XPS

So a couple things I want to point out. In his video, he mentions this but very quickly jumps to the airpods and how they are tied to your account instead of a device, so they can pair with all your devices (phone, tablet, desktop, laptop, watch, etc.) after you connect it to any one of them. All you have to do is use a device, flip open the airpods, and they immediately connect to the device you are currently using. This is what they do not share with other companies. You are still able to pair a different brand of headphones to your devices, but the seamless transition is Apple only. Maybe they have already been sued for this.

Also, the mouse itself is a difficult one to try on other devices. The Magic Mouse cannot be paired with PCs. There is no pairing button. The first time you use it with an apple product, it's an easy pair. Subsequent pairings require that you plug the mouse to the device and then it will automatically pair the Bluetooth. And as you already know, the mouse cannot be used while plugged in, so it's basically impossible to test the mouse on a PC.

I have connected several types of mice to my macbook pro (Corsair, ASUS, Logitech) with a wire and Bluetooth and they work flawlessly. And it would be the same if you connected a different brand of headphones to your apple device. The basic functionality is there and it will work. But the extra apple sauce won't be there. So how do you convince a judge that apple is doing something wrong vs protecting intellectual property?

The magic mouse can absolutely be paired with a PC, so long as it supports the right BT protocols as it is an HID device.

To get the scrolling to work you need to manually pull out the windows drivers from Bootcamp utilities

lol I stand corrected. This is the worst mouse ever for a PC... that's for certain 🙂

The Macaddress video also brings up another good point : why are there hard sharp edges on the mouse?

I'm holding mine right now and while it has some hard edges, I wouldn't call them sharp. I suspect the shape has to do with the gestures and maybe a bulk factor. My comfy Corsair mouse that was 50% of the price is thicc by comparison.
