UPS suggestions? reccomendations?

I finally have to much money hooked ut to the wall plug and I think It's time to buy it some protection.

 

But I know nothing about UPS.

FYI, I have a touch over $5,000 in various machines in my sig (at time of purchase) connected to wall plugs.  No UPS.  No issues.

 

You may just want a good surge protector rather than a UPS.  UPS is for power fluctuations and outages, mainly.

Depends on where you live and what are your requirements. I've got CyberPower PFC SineWare GP 1500VA/900W LCD and I can't complain. Works well with my system. It also gives my stats about power usage which is kinda neat. To be fair I did not really have an outage since I got it but it did save me a few times when some other appliance blew my weak fuses and I needed to flip them back on.

Oh I got those, not many fluctuations but black outs? many. maaaany blackouts.

My house is old and electricity goes out frequently, just takes turning on the hairdryer while washing machine / dishwasher / tumble dryer are going and puff, there goes the power to the whole house.

Aside for that, where I live actual blackouts happen at least 3 times a year

Sounds good.  May want to update your first post with pertinent information like that, plus your PC specs (or totality of what you want to keep powered) if you want help picking out a unit.  You didn't give us much.

Yeah. My PC consumes only up to 450W under full load so 900W PSU is more than enough for me. Under load it would last, like, 20 ish minutes I think? Mostly idle it would last almost an hour. Something like that. Might be enough for you too but we'd need to know your specs. (and location)

So, here's what you need to figure out:

1) how much power does your rig draw at full load.  (PC, Monitor(s), and anything else you *need* running on AC, ie network)

 

2) How much time do you want to have after it shuts down?

 

3) Use online calculators to figure out what VA and such you need on a UPS.  

 

Caveats:

 

If you're not cranking your box when the power cuts out, it'll last a *lot* longer than if you are.

 

Getting a UPS that can supply 800W+ for 5+ minutes will /not/ be cheap.  They get pricey.
