Plex build, update/upgrade check....

While I am moving my Plex/NAS to another case, I was curious if I should upgrade/update any of the components.   Currently:

 

Plex : Ryzen 5 1600 - Gigabyte B450M-DS3H - G. Skill Ripjaws V 16GB 2400Mhz - MSI 1050Ti 4GB - 840 EVO 256GB + WD Red NAS 4TBx2 - TP-Link AC1200 PCIe Wifi - Cooler Master MasterWatt Lite 500

 

Soon to be in the ASUS AP201.  Things work fine for 1-3 concurrent streams we do (have tested up to 5).  Wondering if I should up it to a 3600 or if it ain't broke, don't fix type of thing.  I don't pay for the monthly Plex service, so my 1050Ti is video out only.

 

Edit:  I assume I could set it up as Remote Access and lose the 1050Ti, as well?

if it's working, it's working.   If you were upgrading, a 3600 or 5500 wouldn't be a bad option (since a B450 is limited to PCIE Gen 3 anyways)

 

but unless you're seeing limits, I'd say there's no "need" to upgrade.

Thanks, but I;ll give you one guess who's a dumbass and forgot they had the yearly Plex Pass?

 

Years ago, I had thought I paid the $5 one time charge for accessing Plex via mobile but it was an annual Plex Pass.

 

Does this change anything in regards to now using the 1050Ti to transcode?

 

yeah, I'm fairly ignorant on this stuff.

 

Edit  May just say screw it and get the lifetime pass, since it's only 3x the yearly and I can foresee using Plex at least that long unless something happens.

The 1050 TI can transcode just fine, as long as you're not asking it to transcode to 4K or something dumb.    

 

(That little card was batting way above its weight class at the time, and still is shockingly good.  I know, I have one, too!  lol!)

You need Plex pass for hardware transcoding. Life time Plex pass is $119.

Yeah, just did that now.  It's $120 and they gave me $31 credit for my annual pass prorated, so wasn't too bad.
