Ok, so for some reason I can't get my PC to connect to ethernet with this cable I have, but when I use any other one the lights turn on and everything (the problem is that they're all too short to reach the router and I'm just connecting them to a USB-Ethernet device that's plugged into my PC to test if it's the port)

However, when I plug my ethernet cable that's plugged into the router through the same usb adapter, I get a wired connection. (except it's capped at just below 100MB when I normally get 800MB) So I know it's not the router/cable.

I then tried connecting the cable to the usb adapter, and to my PC through the regular port (like I did with the other cables), and it all works fine for some reason.
What's annoying is that whenever I leave it unplugged, turn of my PC, and plug it in while it's booting up, all of the lights turn on as if it's connected, but as soon as I get past the BIOS screen the lights all turn off.

I'm also wondering if this is some type of short circuit prevention thing happening, because whenever I tried to connect the cable, unplug it, and connect the shorter ones that are connected to my PC with the adapter, I'd have to wait up to 10-20 seconds before I could get it to connect. I really don't want to buy another cable and this is all just so stupid and annoying.

If anyone could help me I'd be so happy. Right now I'm going to see if I can connect to the router with the shorter cables by bringing my PC to it.

Has Ethernet ever worked on that PC?

Do you have the NIC drivers installed? (No "Unknown Device"s or yellow ! symbols in Device Manager?)

It has, and the drivers are installed.

But I """solved""" this on my own. Literally all I did was take my setup downstairs, used the same cable that wasn't working, plugged it in, it worked, then I took it back upstairs and it works fine.

I LITERALLY don't know how the hell that fixed anything but it did.
