If you're buying a new PSU, just buy a native 12VHPWR one instead of one you'll have to adapt to 12VHPWR for the 4090.

Seasonic VERTEX GX-1000, 1000W 80+ Gold, ATX 3.0 / PCIe 5.0 Compliant, Full Modular, Fan Control in Fanless, Silent, and Cooling Mode, 10 Years Warranty - Newegg.com

MSI - MPG A1000G PCIE 5.0, 80 GOLD Full Modular Gaming PSU, 12VHPWR Cable, 4080 4090 ATX 3.0 Compatible, 1000W Power Supply - Newegg.com

850W is even fine, but 1000W is safer, especially if you're overclocking the RTX 4090. If you already own the hxi 1000, then its fine, just see if you can use Corsair's first party internally adapted cable instead of the adapter.

CORSAIR HX1000i Fully Modular Ultra-Low Noise ATX Power Supply - ATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 Compliant - Fluid Dynamic Bearing Fan - CORSAIR iCUE Software Compatible - 80 PLUS Platinum Efficiency - Newegg.com

It can accept a 1st party internally adapted cable, but its not native 12VHPWR. Native 12VHPWR is a 1:1 cable.

Internally adapted is fine if its a 1st party cable, something Corsair does have and so does Seasonic, its definitely not as nice as a 1:1 cable  since that means any 12VHPWR cable should work with the port, including innately angled cables.

I contacted Corsair about this a few months ago, and they had no plans (that they'd tell me) about native 12VHPWR power supplies. Their solution was this and rolling improvements, something that makes determining precisely what your PSU supports in the future miserable. I ran into the problem where my RM1000x didn't support their 1st party cable because it was a year model before what the 1st party internally adapted cable supported.

This lead down a rabbit hole of defective units, defective cablemod cables, defective 1st party cables, and ended with the 1200W Seasonic Vertex and one replaced 12VHPWR cable (the retention clips on both ends of the single included one literally fell off, Seasonic sent me both an internally adapted and native 12VHPWR cable for free though).
