Well, you'll void your warranty for sure.

You'll have to make sure the thread of the trix cooler fit the ones on the backplate, and that there is no clearance issues and so on. Email Sapphire and Heatkiller and ask them they'll tell you whether it fits or not.

I just emailed Heatkiller thanks.  I googled reference R9-290x PCB and came up with this: http://www.hardwareheaven.com/reviewimages/amd-radeon-r9-290/amd-radeon-r9-290_pcb.jpg.  Looking at the back of this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202079, the screw layout looks identical (mind you they are flipped so have to compare closely).  I don't think there would be clearance issues do you?  I mean it is the back of the card and all.

From my experience with back plates you usually use less screws than the stock cooler does, I meant in case there is screws beneath the backplate. ^^

But ya, Heatkiller will be able to tell you that. Mailed EK when I wasn't sure and they told me exactly where it'd fit and where it wouldn't ^^

Well, the reference cooler and the tri-x cooler uses the EXACT same screw pattern/layout.  I did email them, but I only see 1 screw that "Might" be under the plate, but the reference boards also have it.  It's the screw in the middle of the PCB near the rear I/O.  Otherwise ALL of the other screws line up.
